RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was dismissed from the team Friday, the result of numerous legal transgressions and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl.

University president Charles Steger announced the dismissal on the same day that coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother in their Hampton Roads home, the school said. Beamer informed them of the decision during the meeting.

Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, was suspended from school last year for several legal problems. The junior came under new and intense scrutiny this week after replays showed he stomped on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Jan. 2 bowl.

No penalty was called on the play and Vick claimed its was accidental. He further hurt his cause by claiming to have apologized to Dumervil, but the Louisville player said no such apology was ever offered.

On Friday, it was revealed that Vick had been stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license in Hampton on Dec. 17. Vick's license had been taken away last year when he was cited for reckless driving and marijuana possession in New Kent County.

Steger suspended Vick from school at that time, and warned that any additional problems would effectively end his time as a member of the Hokies' football team.

"The university provided one last opportunity for Vick to become a citizen of the university and readmitted him in January 2005, with the proviso that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team," Steger said Friday.

Beamer said in a statement that he was disappointed with the outcome.

"I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending," Beamer said in a statement. "We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best."

School officials said in a statement that there would be no further comment until a news conference on Saturday. Beamer, Steger and athletic director Jim Weaver, who said the stomping embarrassed the university, were all expected to attend.

I'm guessing Marcus Vick oughta get used to seeing my signature line in his future.

Quarterback Vick arrested on firearms charges By KRISTEN GELINEAU, Associated Press Writer
January 9, 2006

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick, booted from the team last week for his behavior on and off the field, was charged Monday with pulling a gun on three teenagers during an altercation in a restaurant parking lot.

Vick surrendered at the Suffolk magistrate's office after three warrants were issued for his arrest Sunday, Magistrate Lisa Noel said.

The 21-year-old Vick was charged with three misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm, and was released on $10,000 bond.

Police said the parents of a 17-year-old boy reported that Vick pointed a weapon at their son and two others during an altercation at a McDonald's in Suffolk, a southeastern Virginia city where Vick's mother lives, Sunday night.

If convicted of all three counts, Vick could be sentenced to up to three years in jail and a $7,500 fine, police spokeswoman Lt. Debbie George said in a statement.

On Friday, Virginia Tech kicked Vick off the team, citing the cumulative effects of numerous legal problems and his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Gator Bowl, where he was caught on tape stomping on the left calf of Louisville All-American Elvis Dumervil.

He also received a speeding ticket and a ticket for driving on a suspended license in Hampton on Dec. 17 while under a "zero tolerance" policy from Virginia Tech.

The policy was implemented when Vick was suspended in 2004 because of several legal problems. He later came under further scrutiny because of replays of his actions against Dumervil.

Vick claimed it was accidental, but hurt his cause by claiming to have apologized to Dumervil, the NCAA sacks leader. Dumervil said he received no such apology.

Saturday, Vick announced he had decided to turn pro.

A Virginia Tech spokesman said university officials would have no comment on Vick's arrest.

"At this point, I think the actions speak for themselves," the spokesman, Larry Hincker, said.

Vick is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. He was the runner-up to Wake Forest's Chris Barclay, by one vote, as the Atlantic Coast Conference's offensive player of the year, and was the league's first-team quarterback.

In 24 career games, the 6-foot, 212-pound Vick threw for 2,868 yards, 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also ran 184 times for 492 yards and six TDs.

Hey Marcus, meet Lawrence Phillips..former Nebraska Cornhusker star, but you can just call him Inmate #1369861....he was an iffy draft choice for the Rams several years ago; he's a domestic violence criminal and never faced the music...just last month, LAPD went into pursuit and it was Lawrence Phillips at the wheel..during his escape, he drove a vehicle through a park and ran over two kids trying to get away, which he did since the police abandoned the chase...he turned himself in a week later...but nonetheless, here's another perfect example of what went wrong....

A couple years ago, a book called Pro's and Con's was hot..it covered all of the Convicts that are currently involved with professional football..the author needs Pro's and Con's part II

Newport News is bad news

I used to live near where that McDonald's is, Michael Vick bought their mom a house in a snooty neighborhood near there. While her neighborhood is snooty, most of the rest of the area is the HOOD. I bet my niece knows the guy who got the gun pulled on him. This is wild.

I really don't think what he did was worth kicking him off the team, but I'm weird and I like TO too. I wonder how he will pan out in the NFL.

I have serious doubts about him being drafted. (he'd be hard to draft if he's in jail. ) Invited to camp maybe.

I believe the university/AD was justified in dumping him from the team.

I'd say Vick now lives with his mother in HarbourView, in Suffolk, that rich neighborhood where Michael bought her a house. It's across from the huge Harbour View Cinema. The back road from there leads right past the back entrance to my old WalMart, and then directly to the McDonald's where the incident occured. It's all my old neighborhood, this is very freaky to see it on the news.
