Garry Kasparov takes on Deep Junior, a chess-playing computer developed by a team of Israeli scientists, starting Sunday. (Who's the bozo that scheduled the Super Bowl the same day as Game 1?)

And just think. A version of Deep Blue is in Nintendo Gamecube. It's interesting what happens to these supercomputer chips.

I also think it would be probably boring to actually buy tickets to watch this live. ;)

I think the original Deep Blue is now involved with toxic waste management projects.

The programmers say that Deep Junior relies less on brute-force move-by-move calculation and more on positional concepts. We'll see.

And I think a chess match could be a lot of fun to watch if they sold beer and allowed fans to heckle. (I'd say the same about golf and tennis.) Imagine Kasparov about to move a pawn, and the entire crowd chanting in unison, "ARE YOU SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE YOU WANT TO DO THAT?"
