Mamas and the Papas' "Creeque Alley" Appreciation Thread...okay...I was bored

Is this not the best sing-a-long song? Any song with a flute solo is okay with me!

For your reading pleasure...the lyrics...

CREEQUE ALLEY
(Phillips-Gilliam)

John and Mitchy were gettin' kind of itchy
Just to leave the folk music behind
Zol and Denny workin' for a penny
Tryin' to get a fish on the line
In a coffee house Sebastian sat
And after every number they'd pass the hat
McGuinn and McGuire just a-gettin' higher
In L.A., you know where that's at
And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass

Zolly said "Denny, you know there aren't many"
"Who can sing a song the way that you do, let's go south"
Denny said "Zolly, golly, don't you think that I wish"
"I could play guitar like you"
Zol, Denny and Sebastian sat (at the Night Owl)
And after every number they'd pass the hat
McGuinn and McGuire still a-gettin higher
In L.A., you know where that's at
And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass

When Cass was a sophomore, planned to go to Swarthmore
But she changed her mind one day
Standin' on the turnpike, thumb out to hitchhike
"Take me to New York right away"
When Denny met Cass he gave her love bumps
Called John and Zol and that was the Mugwumps
McGuinn and McGuire couldn't get no higher
But that's what they were aimin' at
And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass

Mugwumps, high jumps, low slumps, big bumps
Don't you work as hard as you play
Make up, break up, everything is shake up
Guess it had to be that way
Sebastian and Zol formed the Spoonful
Michelle, John, and Denny gettin' very tuneful
McGuinn and McGuire just a-catchin' fire
In L.A., you know where that's at
And everybody's gettin' fat except Mama Cass
Di-di-di-dit dit dit di-di-di-dit, who-o-oa

------ flute ------

Broke, busted, disgusted, agents can't be trusted
And Mitchy wants to go to the sea
Cass can't make it, she says we'll have to fake it
We knew she'd come eventually
Greasin' on American Express cards
It's low rent, but keeping out the heat's hard
Duffy's good vibrations and our imaginations
Can't go on indefinitely
And California dreamin' is becomin' a reality

Yes! This is a great sing-a-long :) I love the Mamas and Papas. I haven't listened to them for a while, so I think will now

My sister and I always used to pop in the Mamas and Papas' greatest hits on long road trips...I'd sing the girls' parts, she'd sing the guys'. Good times! And I like Creeque Alley a lot.

flute solos =

*leaves thread singing "Go where you wanna go........"*

I didn't know that was the name of that song. I like that word "creeque". If ever I owned a racehorse I was going to call it Champion Creek...I think now it would be Champion Creeque.

Cass Elliot was a character. I watched a documentary about The Mamas and the Papas and she just would not take no for an answer.
:hmm: I just noticed another association... MA & PA..cool beans:)

I like this one. My mother plays it on the piano and I love to sing it.

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singing in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me...

Say "nighty-night" and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me...

Stars fading but I linger on dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sun beams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me...

I love to sing that one, too, cass! I often sing it a capella when I don't have any music around.

Cass Elliott was awesome. I once saw in a documentary that she was going to have to leave the group because she couldn't sing high enough. Then after being hit on the head and suffering some kind of concussion, she could sing the notes they needed her to sing! She's an inspiration to all of us altos everywhere. :)
