Lyrics: Your favourite line!

Roadhouse blues, the doors:

'I woke up this morning and I get myself a beer, the future's uncertain and the end is always near'

A thousand trees, stereophonics:

'It only takes one tree to make a thousand matches, it only takes one match, to burn a thousand trees'

What do you thinks of these?
And what are your favourite lines?

I'm too obvious guys. I apologise! But these are my fave lines of all time, from my fave. SONG of all time.....

See the sun rise over her skin
She feels like water in my hand
Freeway like a river cuts through this land
Into the side of love
Like a burning spear
And the poison rain
Brings a flood of fear
Through the ghost-ranch hills
Death valley waters
In the towers of steel
Belief goes on and on

U2 - 'Heartland'

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
you shout and no one seems to hear
and if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

This might be long.

"Dislocated, suffocated, the land grows weary of its own"

"Investments and dealers, investments and dealers, cold wives and mistresses, cold wives and Sunday papers, city boys in first class don't know they're born just know, someone else is gonna come and clean it up, born and raised for the job, someone always does"

"Don't believe what you hear, don't believe what you see, if you'd just close your eyes, you can feel the enemy"

"This desperation, dislocation, separation, condemnation, revelation, in temptation, isolation, desolation, let it go"

"Either way you turn, I'll be there, open up your skull, I'll be there, climbing up the walls"

"There is no pain, you are receding, a distant ship's smoke on the horizon, you are only coming through in waves, your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying"

"And you wound yourself, and your loved one bleeds, and your habits grow, and your conscience feeds on all that you thought you should be, I never thought this could happen to me"

"Don't believe in what they tell me, there ain't no cure, the rich stay healthy, the sick stay poor, I, I believe in love"

"Caviar and cigarattes, well-versed in etiquette, extraordinarily nice, she's a killer queen"

"Beneath the noise, below the din, I hear your voice it's whispering, in science and in medicine I was a stranger, you took me in"

"This, this is our new song, just like the last one, a total waste of time, my iron lung"

"Night after night, going round and round my brain, this dream is driving me insane" (It's more so the delivery for this one)

"I see the dust cloud disappear without a trace, I wanna take shelter from the poison rain, where the streets have no name"

"Time is a train, makes the future the past, leaves you standing in the station, your face pressed up against the glass"

Lots of good ones mentioned already!

But if I must think of one... all of U2's Acrobat comes to mind.

Don't believe what you hear, don't believe what you see
If you just close your eyes you can feel the enemy.

When I first met you girl, you had fire in your soul.
What happened t'your face of melting snow
Now it looks like this!
And you can swallow or you can spit
You can throw it up, or choke on it
And you can dream, so dream out loud
You know that your time is coming round
So don't let the bastards grind you down.

No, nothing makes sense, nothing seems to fit.
I know you'd hit out if you only knew who to hit.
And I'd join the movement
If there was one I could believe in
Yeah, I'd break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in.
'Cause I need it now.

To take the cup
To fill it up, to drink it slow.
I can't let you go.

And I must be an acrobat
To talk like this and act like that.
And you can dream, so dream out loud
And don't let the bastards grind you down.

What are we going to do now it's all been said?
No new ideas in the house, and every book's been read.

And I must be an acrobat
To talk like this and act like that.
And you can dream, so dream out loud
And you can find your own way out.
And you can build, and I can will
And you can call, I can't wait until
You can stash and you can seize
In dreams begin responsibilities
And I can love, and I can love
And I know that the tide is turning 'round
So don't let the bastards grind you down.

This will definitely be long. I have so many favourite lyrics.

Like a whipcrack sending me shivers (Beck - The New Pollution)

One more robot learns to be/something more than a machine (The Flaming Lips - One More Robot/Sympathy 3000)

Community service and I'm still the mack (Beck - Hotwax)

And I guess we all fit into that slogan on the fast food marquee/ red blooded white skinned and the blues (Bright Eyes - Let's Not Shit Ourselves)

Since then it's been a book you read in reverse/so you understand less as the pages turn/or a movie so crass and awkwardly cast that even I could be the star (The Shins - Pink Bullets)

Gentle as a scorpion sting (Of Montreal - Chrissy Kiss the Corpse)

Neptune's lips taste like fermented wine (Beck - Mixed Bizness)

Buried animals call your name/you keep on sleeping through the poignant rain (Beck - Nicotine & Gravy)

I can't pick any particular lyric from Wilco's I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.. the entire song is perfect.

I'm looking in on the good life I might be doomed never to find.

It's getting hard to be someone, but it all works out.

We always did feel the same, we just saw it from a different point of view.

It seems there's more to life than just to live it.

I know what I want, but I just don't know.

I am he as you are he as you are me, and we are all together.

I wish it was the sixties, I wish we could be happy.

You're making me feel like I've never been born.

She never really belonged to me.

Doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you.

The time you ran was too insane.

If I get old, I will not give in.

Whatever's in my head won't go away.

My balls are always bouncing to the left and to the right.

Fuck the universe.

"you're a tragedy starting to happen" Red by Elbow

"I've seen it all, I have seen the trees,
I've seen the willow leaves dancing in the breeze
I've seen a man killed by his best friend,
And lives that were over before they were spent.
I've seen what I was - I know what I'll be
I've seen it all - there is no more to see!" I've Seen It All by Bjork

"You were right about the stars
Each one is a setting sun" Jesus, Etc. by Wilco

and many more

I don't believe in the existence of angels
but looking at you I wonder if that's true
but if I did I would summon them together
and ask them to watch over you
To each burn a candle for you
to make bright and clear your path
and to walk like, like Christ, in grace and love
and guide you into my arms

theres waaaaaaay to many, im one of those that cant decide one favorite line from one artist...and i like too many bands so picking one line is nearly impossbile... ill just put ONE whole song that i like a lot ...

If you hate the taste of wine
Why do you drink it until you’re blind?
And if you swear that there’s no truth and who cares
How come you say it like you’re right?
Why are you scared to dream of god
When it’s salvation that you want?
You see stars that clear have been dead for years
But the idea just lives on

We are wheels that roll around
As we move over the ground
And all day it seems we’ve been in between the past and future town

We are nowhere, and it’s now
We are nowhere, and it’s now
You took a ten-minute dream in the passengers seat
While the world it was flying by
I haven’t been gone very long
But it feels like a lifetime

I’ve been sleeping so strange at night
Side effects they don’t advertise
I’ve been sleeping so strange
With a head full of pesticide

I got no plans and too much time
I feel to restless to unwind
I’m always lost in thought
As I walk a block to my favourite neon sign
Where the waitress looks concerned
But she never says a word
Just turns the jukebox on
And we hum along
And I smile back at her

And my friend comes after work
When the features start to blur
She says these bars are filled with things that kill
And you probably should have learned

Did you forget that yellow bird?
How could you forget that yellow bird?

She took a small silver wreathe and pinned it onto me
She said this one will bring you love
I don’t know if it’s true but I keep it for good luck

"I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love." (Crowded House)

Nick Cave's lyrics are amazing. Here' some from the "Mercy Seat""

"I hear stories from the chamber
How Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
Died upon the cross
And might I say it seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told

Like my good hand I
tatooed E.V.I.L. across it's brother's fist
That filthy five! They did nothing to challenge or resist.

In Heaven His throne is made of gold
The ark of his Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.
Down here it's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away.

Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries
To enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And anyway I never lied."

From Pulp's "Common People":

"You'll never live like common people
You'll never do what common people do
You'll never fail like common people
You'll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw
Because there's nothing else to do."
