Sorry, guys I have been here lately. What are lyric parts that emotionally touch you or make you laugh? Or whatever, please say if ya' want to.

Well, here are some of mine: "The beat of a drum is the beat of a child"~"Mother's Talk" Tears For Fears.

"I don't want the world to see, because I don't think they'll understand." "When everything is made to be broken, I just want you to know who I am."~"Iris" The Goo Goo Dolls.

"I see a picture where everybody's smiling, I guess I got to keep it on the inside." "American Movie P.t.2" Everclear.

Well, what are yours? :wink:

These always make me laugh:

Ryan Adams - "God Bless The Week (You Go Away)"

All you wanted from me was nothing
And damn, you gave it to me
Oh, fuck me

Whiskeytown - "Bastards I Used To Know"

This old city, it is home to fucking bastards I used to know
Lucky me, I'm too drunk to remember their names

~~~~
These always make me cry:
Ryan Adams - "Miss Sunflower"
I'm still out on Sunset in a taxicab
I'm still at the movies, and I'm holding your hand
Still at an overpass view looking out at the lights
Still on an airplane, and I'm starting to cry
I don't think about you
Whiskeytown - "Jacksonville Skyline"
Well I floated down main street, pools of car lights
Overcame me, wishing I was still back home
....
Somewhere the night sky hangs like a blanket
Shoot it with my cap gun just to make it
Seem like stars
The Ramones - "Questioningly"
But I don't love you anymore
Why do you want to talk to me for?
You should have just let me walk by
Memories make us cry
Bright Eyes - "Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh"
You said you hate my suffering
And you understood
And you'd take care of me
You'd always be there
Well, where are you now?
~~~~

Oh, hell, I could keep going on and on and on...

:laugh: That's the kinda lyrics that I'd write.

"Songs when the truth are all dedicated to you
In this invisible world I choose to live in
And if you believe that now I understand
Why words mean so much to you, they?ll never be about you"
American English - Idlewild. (cynical and beautiful:heart:)

"Last night Jackie Chan came round
we played pool and we hung out
Mr Miaggi and the X-men
came round for a while as well"
Kung-Fu- Ash :cool:

"beware the false motives of others, be careful of those who pretend to be brothers, and you never suppose that it's those who are closest to you, to you
They say all the right things to gain their position, and use your kindness as their ammunition, to shoot you down in the name of ambition, they do"
Forgive them Father - Lauryn Hill

"Like what you're given,
some of us are standin in line"
Hangin around the day pt2 - The Polyphonic Spree

"Halfway from coal, halfway to diamond" - R.E.M.

there's loads, but those are a few of the top o me head.

There's a bit of magic in everything
And then some loss, to even things out

:sad: (but oh so true)
Lou Reed - Magic & Loss

I don't pretend to know what you want
But I offer love...

:hug:
Crowded House - Distant Sun

People criticize me but I know it's not the end
I try to kick the truth, not just to make friends

and

Tell me the definition of a sellout
Cast your first stone, then get the hell out
People say they know me, I can tell you that they don't
People say they own me, I can tell you that they won't

Spearhead - People In Tha Middle

Those are just some lyrics that came flying out of my head. If I took some more time (and a good look at my record collection) I would undoubtedly come up with much, much more.

C ya!

Marty

Nightswimming - REM

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night.
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows.
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse.
Still, it?s so much clearer.
I forgot my shirt at the water?s edge.
The moon is low tonight.

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night.
I?m not sure all these people understand.
It?s not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water.
They cannot see me naked.
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday.

Nightswimming, remembering that night.
September?s coming soon.
I?m pining for the moon.
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
Could not describe nightswimming.

You, I thought I knew you.
You I cannot judge.
You, I thought you knew me,
this one laughing quietly underneath my breath.
Nightswimming.

The photograph reflects,
Every streetlight a reminder.
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night

love the whole song so i can't pick one part

ryan adams- La Cienega Just Smiled

And I hold you close in the back of my mind
And raise my glass 'cause either way I'm dead
Neither of you really help me to sleep anymore
One breaks my body and the other breaks my soul
La Cienega just smiles as it waves goodbye

and a bunch more

Palace Music - Give Me Children

"Don't let anyone see us
Say what they've seen and expose us
I've seen how they are and I hate it
They could never talk about where you've been"

Crowded House - Private Universe
I will run for shelter
endless summer lift the curse
it feels like nothing matters
in our private universe

R.E.M. - Walk Unafraid
as the sun comes up, as the moon
goes down
these heavy notions creep around
it makes me think
long ago I was brought into
this life a little lamb
a little lamb
courageous, stumbling
fearless was my middle name.
but somewhere there I
lost my way
everyone walks the same
expecting me to step
the narrow path they've laid
they claim to
walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
hold my love me or leave me
high.

say "keep within the boundaries if you want
to play."
say "contradiction only makes it harder."
how can I be
what I want to be?
when all I want to do is strip away
these stilled constraints
and crush this charade
shred this sad masquerade
I don't need no persuading
I'll trip, fall, pick myself up and
walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
hold my love me or leave me
high.

if I have a bag of rocks to carry as I go
I just want to hold my head up high
I don't care what I have to step over
I'm prepared to look you in the eye
look me in the eye
and if you see familiarity
then celebrate the contradiction
help me when I fall to
walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
hold my love me or leave me
high.
walk unafraid
I'll be clumsy instead
hold my love me or leave me
high.

:up:

"I'm a minger
You're a minger too
So come on minger
I want to ming with you" -- Super Furry Animals, 'Hello, Sunshine'

"Spent some times in stormy weather
Under clouds of my dilemma
Now there's nothing much to do
But sit and rot in front of televisions
Staring back at me
I'm just waiting for the microwaves
To wash me into the sea

You know they don't give a fuck about anybody else (X4)
You know they

"Out of focus ideology
Keep the masses from majority
Experts, brain washed, tumble dried
Left to bleed whilst vultures glide

You know they don't give a fuck about anybody else (X8)
You know they

You know they don't give a fuck about anybody else (X36 :laugH: )" --SFA, 'The Man Don't Give A Fuck'

Okay, there are TONS of SFA lyrics I love, so I'll stop at those.

"Were you crushed
Did I rush you
All my time is yours
My twisted heart is yours
The faithless shit is yours
The shameless fits of love that only smother you for moments
Until I fold them up and leave
All yours

(chorus)
Oh you had to ask didn?t you (x2)
Oh you had to know

Show your scars
Not to rush you
The hieroglyphic hints in all the toilet scrawl
Guilty little pins
And all the things I never talk about
Are spilling with the gin
Test how tough you are
All yours

(chorus)

Not to rush you" -- Elbow, 'Asleep in the Back'

"Falling feels like flying
Until you hit the ground
And everything is beautiful
'Till you take a look around
So let it go" -- Tom McRae, 'Walking to Hawaii'

"all of your days will be blessed
so put on a smile and get dressed
into the void we will fly away from here
all of your thoughts will be crowned
you'll be the toast of town
into the view of a million crystal spheres" -- Ed Harcourt, 'All of Your Days Will Be Blessed' :heart:

The Pogues - Bottle of Smoke

Twenty fucking five to one
Me gambling days are done
I bet on a horse called the Bottle of Smoke
And my horse won

not to nitpick, but it's "the beat of the drums is the fear of the dark." :wink:

i can't think of any lyrics right now that touch me or anything, i can only think of lines that make me laugh. sting writes some pretty funny stuff sometimes, although he really only did with the police:

"i never noticed the size of my feet till i kicked you in the shins" (does everyone stare)

"ask if i am mouse or man, the mirror squeaked away i ran. he'll murder me, in time for his tea." (seven days)

there's more but i can't think of them.

:up: to the ones meegannie :up:ed and meegannies!

I have a lot :shifty: ...

(my sig)

"Do you feel like a remnant
Of something that's past
Do you find things are moving
Just a little too fast.
Do you hope to find new ways
Of quenching your thirst,
Do you hope to find new ways
Of doing better than your worst." ? nick drake, ?hazey jane I?

"Walking around the city as the light fades (is it all that you remain?)
I?m thinking about each promise that I have ever made
But I know what they will never say, I know what they will never say" ? idlewild, 'century after century'

"This road is crooked cracked and wrong
They got the odds staked nice and high
I don't know how they get along
Me, I just internalize
You can imagine what they'd say
Given the choice if I could fight or walk away, I'm walking
You see I want my life to make more sense
I want my life to make amends
I want my life to make more sense to me" - the frames 'pavement tune'

?You burn too bright
You live too fast
This can't go on too long
You're a tragedy starting to happen? ? Elbow ?red?

?Don't paint the silence black now save me
Don't leave it a day
You got a right to stand or die so maybe
You take chances all the same
Pain comes in stages
If we don?t make it
Nothing changes
Now the violence sleeps inside
Abandoned feeling for just a piece of mind ? ? south, ?paint the silence?

?If I lose you
Could you find me?
Or would you walk right by me?
The soul and the spirit
Each have got their own limit
And I can't waste another second
Living in hell like it's some kind of heaven
And if one truth leads to another
Then isn't there one I can uncover?
But there isn't one that I will not discover? ? Beth Orton, ?feel to believe?

?But sometimes I'd feel more fulfilled
making Christmas cards with the mentally ill
I want to live and I want to love
I want to catch something that I might be ashamed of
Frankly, Mr Shankly, this position I've held
it pays my way and it corrodes my soul
oh, I didn't realise that you wrote poetry
I didn't realise you wrote such bloody awful poetry Mr Shankly? ? the smiths, ?Frankly, Mr. Shankly?

?I tried living in the real world
Instead of a shell
But I was bored before I even began
I was bored before I even began? ? the smiths, ?shoplifters of the world unite?

Gorgeous in its simplicity:

Groove Armada - My Friend

Whenever I'm down
I call on you my friend
A helping hand you lend
In my time of need

One of my favourite lyrics ever, well this line is,

"all my friends are fuck-ups, but they're fun to have around"

from The Whitlams, 'You sound like Louis Bedette'

maybe its because it reminds me off all off my friends:wink:

oh, and I also really like these lyrics too,

I could scream and shout- but would you listen?
I could write the most amazing words- but would you read them?
I could paint a beautiful picture- hang it up in a museum
But would you stand there praising me- would you love me?

and I wrote those, they are part of a sad love song I wrote a few years back, but I really like those lyrics and the song is nice, just simple chords, but it works!:wink:

Grace under pressure
Cooling palm across my brow
Eyes of an angel
Lay me down

Grace under pressure
Cooling palm across my brow
Eyes of an angel
Lay me down

and the angels say:
We still believe in love so fuck you
We still believe in love so fuck you
We still believe in love so fuck you

i forgot to say why.

i had that on an away message (thus the "and the angels say:") and it was after i'd been dumped by this chica that decided she just didn't believe in love or some shite like that. it was pretty much universal in meaning and 100% applicable to the situation at hand. i drank a lot of coors' light too. that makes me sing rocky mountain top!

"Don't give up, you got the music in you." seperate verses "If this d*** world should fall apart, follow your heart." ~New Radicals~ Get What You Give

"You could of saved him, means nothing" "You could have been there, that's a lie." "How you can blame him for your life, it's a mental sucided, and it carries you away." ~Guster and I am unsure of the song but it is on "Parachute."

"She smokes ten packs a day." "She exersizes with heals" "She says I am beautiful, meet Virginia."~Train~Virginia [Sorry, it has been a long, so I didn' remember the lyrics that good.]

What tongueless ghost of sin crept through my curtains?
Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night
I think he don't got a name but I can't be certain
And in me he starts to confide

That my family don't seem so familiar
And my enemies all know my name
And if you hear me tap on your window
Better get on yer knees and pray, panic is on the way...

Gas Panic, by Oasis (the greatest song ever written IMHO)

"Fuck It...I Broke Your Cat" - Ryan Adams

Horny, but you never really turn me on
Blow me, toss a nugget on your favorite shirt
Butterflies and pantyhead, man I broke your cat, meow, oh, fuck it
Last night I screwed Betty Rubble
One more goddamn drink, I'll take a double, I'll take a double
Fuck Barney Rubble
Fuck Barney Rubble
Meow!

:lmao:

Not to bandwagon on Idlewild, but I MUST post this:

When you're secure do you feel much safer?
When days never change and it's three years later,
It's like your life, hasn't changed and it's three years late,
How does it feel to be three years late
and watching your youth drift away?

What seems different seems different today
What seems different seems different today

You held the world in your arms tonight,
And what if you held the world in your arms

-'You Held the World In Your Arms' - Idlewild

:up: Was torn between posting this and American English.

I just busted out my Idlewild disc again yesterday...had kind of forgotten about it...spinning it a lot.

From "Northern Lad" by Tori Amos:

Girls, you've got to know when it's time to turn the page
When you're only wet because of the rain

From "It's Only Time" by the Magnetic Fields:

Why would I stop loving you
A hundred years from now?
It's only time...

Gorgeous song. :drool:
