Appreciate this.

This is a great song. It's a short, simple melody being repeated over and over with a eerily robotic voice singing over it. Such a description would have you think it's not a very good song, but it is

I can't get the melody out of head.

The song that openly defied the punk commandment, "thou shalt not use synths."

Brilliant song, but just one of hundreds of masterpieces to come out of Manchester since the late-70's.

Joy Division, New Order, Stone Roses, Smiths, Happy Mondays, Oasis, Chem Brothers....

Manchester is undoubtedly the best city in the world when it comes to churning out amazing bands and songs....a birthplace of genres.... no one comes close to Manchester in producing such quality.

This is the song that introduced me to Joy Division. Splendid song. Not their best, but great nonetheless.

what an addictive song. it was actually the song that got me into Joy Division.

the lyrics are a bit.. yeah, but the melody makes up for it

it just seems cold to me. :|

Don't take this as a flame, but the reason you've cited for not liking the song is kind of the point.

When routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And resentment rides high
But emotions won’t grow
And we’re changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again

Why is the bedroom so cold
Turned away on your side?
Is my timing that flawed,
Our respect run so dry?
Yet there’s still this appeal
That we’ve kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again

Do you cry out in your sleep
All my failings expose?
Get a taste in my mouth
As desperation takes hold
Is it something so good
Just can’t function no more?
When love, love will tear us apart again

How could that ever be perceived as a "warm" song?

Some of those lyrics are wrong, actually. :)

Ha, I wouldn't doubt it! It was almost four in the morning when I copied + pasted that, and I didn't bother to check if it was right. :crack:

But yes, if anyone's looking for happy clappy music in Joy Division, they've got the wrong band.
