I also quite unintentionally have a pitiful lack of music made by females. I guess because there's too few women in prog and metal, and when they're in metal it's too often gothic metal bullshit like Nightwish that I just don't enjoy. Though when they are in prog ... Pure Reason Revolution for the huge fucking win.
Oooh I can pretend I'm an expert and recommend music to axver.

we won't even bother with dar, she's too soft and fluffy, though you could check out February cause it's awesome and i always find that February sucks anyway and that's what the song is about. :goes to listen: actually the opening trio on mortal city (album) is fantastic: as cool as i am, february, iowa (traveling ill). my favorite 3 dar songs, though Family has great sentimental value to me.

Tracy Chapman. Good Sir get yourself the self titled at the very least.

Indigo Girls. I don't know where to start, beyond Galileo being awesome, also Closer to Fine and Love's Recovery are other favorites of mine.

Music recommendations.

It seems I now have plenty to look up. And anything echoing my sentiment that February is the worst fucking month of the year is more than welcome.

It's fucking an amazing song, i used to listen to it on repeat through february and into the beginning of march til i'd remember feb. was over.

However (I'm listening now) there's a lot of northern hemisphere imagery so it might not speak to you as much.

I could conceivably catch you though, if you go to bed soon and the Aussie crowd gets going.

No, just liberal/feminist/angry at the man/angry at men/hippy.

the same assumption could be made of all the music i just recommended.

oh and Ax - Tracy Chapman's song America is fucking brilliant. that and Ani's poem express my confused feelings towards my country pretty well.

Martin Phillipps has this great song about February from a Southern Hemisphere perspective that would probably confuse you.

But really, anything that echoes how shit this month is suits me. This February and the last one have been the pits. I can't wait for April this year. Especially late April. Do I even need to tell you why? You probably know by now. Everybody probably does.
