Liz Phair

Are there any Liz Phair fans here?

I've been a big fan of hers since Exile in Guyville came out when I was in 7th or 8th grade (has it been 10 years already??). Her music is scathing, honest, and well, ballsy, especially Guyville. She's great at pop music as well, and I'm eagerly anticipating her new album, which should be out this summer. Rock on Liz!

Hey Sis!

I found a copy of Guyville last fall while I was used cd shopping. I remembered hearing you going on and on about it so I decided to check it out.

Holy crap, I can't wait for her new one.

I only have "Exile in Guyville", but I like it a lot. What's the rest of her work like?

After Guyville, Liz seemed to go more in the pop direction--very catchy and fun tunes. I liked Whip-Smart more than whitechocolatespacegg...but I haven't heard what her new album will sound like...

There was an article about her on cnn.com yesterday. Apparently critics are really bashing her new album, and fans who loved her earlier stuff are expected to be let down.

I'm not a fan myself, just passing along what I read.

Edit: I believe the article title was "Liz Phair: The New Avril Levigne?" Gotta admit, it doesn't sound good...

Being a newbie to Liz Phair, what album is the best one to start with?

I'm not a Liz Phair fan, but I know that Pete Yorn did a little work on the new album (if my memory is serving me correctly at this early hour). So, there's your random PY fact for the day.

I really like Liz Phair. Exile and Whip-Smart were genius. But unfortunately her new album is a big steaming pile of crap. 4 songs were written and produced by The Matrix. They are the team responsible for Avril Lavigne. I don't think I need to say anymore. Michael Penn produced a handful of tunes, but unfortunately couldn't save her from singing lines such as "I wanna play X-Box on your floor, I wanna say hi to your roomate next door."

She's played-out.

Liz will probably never live up to her brilliant debut "guyville". I'm not certain how I feel about her new stuff. Very pop.
