SALEM, W.Va. — The Lincoln University men’s basketball team defeated Ohio State-Marion, 201-78 at Salem International’s T.D. Edwards Gym in the second round of the 25th Annual Joe Manchin Classic Saturday afternoon. UDC claimed a 67-50 victory over Salem International in the second game of the round-robin tournament.

In setting five NCAA Division III records, the 11th-ranked Lions improved to 5-1 and bounced back from a 90-79 loss to Salem International the night before. Lincoln placed seven players in double figures highlighted by senior guard Sami Wylie, who scored a school record and career-high 69 points while making a NCAA record 21 3-pointers. Overall, Wylie was 23-for-44 from the field, 21-for-41 from 3-point distance and 2-for-3 from the foul line in 24 minutes.

The previous school scoring record was 62 points by Kyle Myrick on Feb. 20, 2006 against Penn State-Abington. Wylie eclipsed the old NCAA record of 19 3-pointers made in a single game, which was set in 1998 by Jeff Clement of Grinnell College (Iowa). Wylie is averaging 24.8 points per game. Wylie, who made 13 3-pointers against Delaware Valley College on Feb. 2, 2006, tied Grinnell's Steve Diekmann for the second most points in a Division III game.

“I just felt right when I came into the gym today,” Wylie said of his school record scoring effort. “When I released the ball, I could feel it off my fingertips like everything was going to go in. This was a special moment for me.”

In addition to Wylie, Dwight Dean (33 points, 13 rebounds), Darryl White (28 points), Keyon Johnson (11 points) and Dante Blanton (10 points) also established career highs in points. Also reaching double figures for the Lions were Thomas Lahart (11 points) and Ja’Juan Robinson (10 points). In all for Lincoln, 14 players scored at least two points.

Troy Biggs paced OSU-Marion with 31 points. Mark Sisler added 24 points and six rebounds and Bryant Sisler finished with 10 points for Maroon Wave (1-5). Ohio State-Marion, which lost to UDC 133-53 in the opening round, is a non-NCAA school that competes in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference.

The Division III records established by Lincoln were most points in a single game, most points in a half, largest margin of victory, field goals made and field goals attempted. The previous Division III scoring mark was 172 points set by Redlands College in 2005. Lincoln made 79-of-141 shots from the field, 28-for-60 from 3-point distance and 15-of-19 from the foul line.

The Lions twice set the record for most points in a half, scoring 97 in the first half to edge Redlands' previous mark of 93 and adding 104 in the second half. Lincoln scored 126 points two times last season, most recently against Delaware Valley on Feb. 2, 2006.

It is the 24th time under third-year coach Garfield Yuille, Lincoln has scored 100 or more points in a single game. The Lions are 23-1 in those games.

Lincoln returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Ramapo College for a 4:00 p.m. start.

This game was a disgrace to basketball. Why would they run up such a big score on a weaker opponent?

better question is what was such a weak opponent doing in a tournament where they obviously could not compete? they had lost the previous night by 80 something points, too.

when you get destroyed by 80+ on consecuitve nights, ya can't totaly blame the opponents. they're obviously sooooo bad that they don't belong on the court. what are the other teams to do, stop shooting after half time?

Lincoln should have pulled a fan down to suit up with the team for the fourth quarter.

but how'd they find time to put up 78 points still?

for a team to score over 200 points, you wouldn't think there'd be enough clock for the other team to score more than 10.

If this was one isolated game, I'd question the sportsmanship, but, as Headache said, for them to be this amazingly lousy 2 games in a row speaks more about them than their opponents.

Perhaps the losing team can actually learn something, Phil.....My Dad used to beat me like this at stickball, and look how well I turned out.
