I know, maybe this thread will die in oblivion

anyway... post-rock is my favorite kind of music lately, even with its pretentious name, these musicians can communicate such deep feelings with just music (except in cases like Sigur Ros, some Mogwai, etc.), is, perhaps, very difficult music to listen, songs use to last 8, 10 or 30 minutes but I like how a post-rock song can evolve in itself and build sound walls...

depends on my mood, but i know what you mean. this shit can really suck you in and occupy the entire world. i love mogwai. their power is frightening and inspiring.

mofo got me listening to explosions in the sky recently. i'd avoided them because either people i know in real life or people here liked them, and i generally don't agree with their reviews. mogwai, too.

whenever someone says post-rock, i immediatly think of fugazi, or any kind of rock band that plays weird experimental shit for the sake of being wierd and experimental. i tend to forget that some it actually sounds good.

it's just that post-rock is the stuff that all the pretentious snobby kids at college radio stations like. so since i put so much of my energy into hating those people, some of it rubs off on the music.

I will have to admit that in my ignorance I have no idea what type of music "post-rock" is - but cheers for the links!

However, I bought Rachel's - Systems/layers recently on hearing some of their stuff that a friend played. It isn't the type of music I'd usually buy but I really love this album - particularly 'Water From the Same Source' and 'Esperanza'

In honor of Sigur Ros just announcing a Salt Lake City date (same week as Mogwai, how freaking awesome will that be?!), I'm digging this thread out of the grave.

I actually wrote a decent sized "Introduction to Post-Rock" article around the same time this thread was made for some of my friends. Absolutely none of them were interested in it, I'll post it here so more people can be uninterested in it. It's mainly the "big" post-rock groups since the article was written as an introduction, so it may not really tread any new ground for some of you.
