In honor of Sigur Ros just announcing a Salt Lake City date (same week as Mogwai, how freaking awesome will that be?!), I'm digging this thread out of the grave.

I actually wrote a decent sized "Introduction to Post-Rock" article around the same time this thread was made for some of my friends. Absolutely none of them were interested in it, I'll post it here so more people can be uninterested in it. It's mainly the "big" post-rock groups since the article was written as an introduction, so it may not really tread any new ground for some of you.

There are tons of legal download links in the comments.

what about a band called Boom Bip.. completely instrumental.

I saw them open for Interpol in Montreal.

they build a wall of sound, and put a mic in front of the bass drum. You could feel the bass rush through your body everytime he stomped 'er down...

I wonder if it's too much to hope for them to make another swing through DFW...

I'm bumping my own thread, because I made some kind of compilation about this fabulous sub-genre

you can download it here: http://ashcities.blogspot.com/
(scroll down)

if someone wants to know more about post-rock, I recommend download that mix

How did the term post-rock come to be? Kind of the stuff that happened after rock stopped being exciting or fresh and we needed some cooing and xylophones?

haha, post-rock is a stupid term, indeed, but I don't know how to call this kind of music anyway

it's something with "post", definitely, because it's like post-apocalyptic music
