While Edge was discovering the secrets of the universe, Bono was discovering lyrics to plagiarise a few albums later.

And hee, go us:

Yeah, you gotta give these things a chance to sink into your subconscious before you can pretend you thought them up yourself years later.

Wow.

 And note that DYFL and LNOE got regurgitated in HTDAAB, in Yahweh and COBL respectively. So Zooropa listening struck ATYCLB and Pop struck HTDAAB. I wonder what from the ATYCLB era will strike the next album?

Of course, you'll probably have a life or something tomorrow while I sit here and go to 300 posts on the thread. :reject:

Oh gawd. That confirms all my worst fears for this album.
But if ATYCLB was recycled Zooropa listening... maybe this one will be re-recycled Zoo listening?

No plans for a life here, unless a miracle occurs and I actually clean my room.

.... Don't hold your breath.

 Maybe it'll be stuff like TGBHF rubbing off rather than Stuck. We can only hope.

Ha. Ha ha. Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it. I'm thinking about doing work, since I really should get a bit done this weekend in case next week is lost in post-election drunken hazes. Having both the US and Kiwi elections in the same week isn't so good for my sobriety, especially as the Kiwi election looks like turning into an utter fuck-up for all progressive people.

Ack. Sod hope, I'll just assume the worst and thus insure myself against disappointment.

Well, I hope they don't both go sour.

Woot!

Is it wrong that I'm hanging out for the public holiday, after I've just come back from leave? :reject:

Public holidays are always SuperWin. I just hate that it seems almost every public holiday seems timed just so that uni students miss out.

I'm amused to read on the Melbourne LJ community stuff about today being Derby Day. Apparently there was plenty happening and lots of obnoxious twits out in my surrounding suburbs. Well, it was nice and quiet when I went shopping and I'd not even heard of this Derby Day until the evening news came on!

Heh, yeah, my logic about pretty much everything is "no expectations = no disappointments". Kate used to criticise me endlessly for that, saying it was so nastily pessimistic. I think it's quite realistic!

I'm feeling good about the US election. The analysis over on Five Thirty Eight, which I think is damn good stuff, shows the probability of him winning the popular vote as over 96%, if I remember what I read earlier today correctly. But the Kiwi election is going to be close and will likely fall on the trainwreck side of life. If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, assume I drank four bottles of wine in an hour, passed out, and am lying on the lounge floor blissfully asleep and hoping to stay asleep until the Nationals are voted out.

I dunno about UniMelb, but Monash didn't recognise Cup Day. I had an exam on Cup Day once... possibly that one where I had to catch a crammed steamy bus home from Caulfield, cos there were no bloody trains.

Realistic and admittedly cowardly. Why risk it?

Duly noted, Rip van Axver

I'm not sure if we recognise Cup Day or not, since both this year and last, it's fallen during swotvac. Does Monash recognise Labour Day? Melbourne somehow gets away with not recognising it. I'm baffled why the Socialist Alternative isn't protesting that violently.

I was thinking less cowardly and more vehemently cynical about people, the universe, and life in general. If something can go wrong, chances are, it will. Every time I have chosen not to take heed of that instinct, it seems things have ended up going awry too.

If they don't acknowledge Cup Day, I don't think they would for Labour Day either... I guess they make up for all the missed public hols with that three-month break at the end of the year, though. I miss that.

I guess it's a bit of both for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about having three months off over summer. I'd prefer winter to be a little longer, and perhaps a few more mid-semester breaks. Three months has always felt like overkill to me.

Then again, maybe it's not bad if you work or travel.

"There's someone in my head, but it's not me"... what an awesome line.

Hell yes.

I was listening to Animals, but it just finished, so I've put on the second half of DSOTM. I love Us And Them.

I didn't work or travel, and I loved it. Three months of guilt-free internet/gaming!

But yeah, it always struck me as slightly insane that you were supposed to be learning more advanced stuff in Uni than in school, but you got way less semester time to learn it all in...

Last summer wasn't particularly good. Besides Christmas and birthday trips, I pretty much just sat around at home on my own as things with Kate and I fell apart. I would've quite liked some university then!

Ha, yeah. Though I suppose once you get higher up, like with Honours, there's something of an expectation that if you need to go elsewhere to do research, you'll take advantage of the lengthy holiday to do it. I may spend some time in the National Library of New Zealand over summer.

Fair enough...

Oh darn, you'll have to go to NZ.

Um, whoops. Where did the last hour go??

Wait just a cotton-pickin' minute. My computer says 2.25am, interference says 1.25am. My phone agrees with my computer.

WTF? I'm sure I got it all sorted after our clocks changed...

... unless this is the time they usually change, and no one told interference they already have.

Oh, forgot to ask... what did you do for 80k, Ax?

80k.jpg

Ooh, ta. Remind me who it's by again? :reject:

This one is by This Is Your Captain Speaking, who are headlining. It's their 2005 debut. I think they have a second album that's just come out, but I haven't checked it out. I'll pass on an album by Because Of Ghosts, one of the support acts.

That's another album I probably need, right?

... oh, I thought you had it. More uploading for me then, I guess! It's my favourite Pink Floyd album and one of my top ten albums of all time.
