Frankly, I want to leave. The Superthread is not what we created. It has lost its edge, and to be honest, it has lost some of its intellect. Our claim to having the only sane abortion discussion on Interference is unimaginable today, not because the discussion wouldn't be sane but because it wouldn't happen in the first place. And where's the sense of humour? I don't laugh as much as I once did. The Superthread was founded on jokes and pranks. The only time I faintly find this thread to be what it was is on those few evenings when a decent Aussie crowd appears, and even those are less frequent than they were.

But I can't bring myself to leave. I consider you guys my friends. If I leave here, there goes my contact with people who, frankly, mean a lot to me. It hurts every time another regular departs here because they don't enjoy the thread any more. Sure, there's e-mail, but I'm useless with that, and I don't really like IM most of the time, and neither is the same anyway. If all of you were active on LJ, I'd think more seriously about leaving, but you aren't (plus LJ nowadays is even more undesirably commercialised than here). I have absolutely no doubt in my mind the Superthread could return to its former self; even as recently as earlier this month it seemed to be somewhat of its former self. The Superthread is what its members make it, and if the former crowd were here, it would be its former self.

But perhaps I'm the only person who believes in this place. I've tried my hardest to keep this place going the last couple of months, to the point where I've become almost synonymous with the Superthread. I'm not going to try any more. If you guys want the Superthread, it's up to you now. I have better things to do with my life than see my friends disappear one by one.

From what I've read and from my politics studies, I think this is just the tip of the iceberg and the next couple of decades are going to be very hard for everybody.
