Well how about this. We all know Kid A is perfect beauty. But lets try not to put a death grip on Brau's thread.

Kid A Problems:

Lyrics can be alittle screwy. Thom had to choose some out of a hat.

In my opinion it should have been a double disc with Amnisiac.

plenty of GREAT shit has been around since kid A. here's just one example:

broken social scene - you forgot it in people is an album deserving of such accolades. it's ambient, rocking, inventive, and familiar. and it was released 2003. a nice balance between ambience/artsiness/artfulness/melody/classic pop/inventiveness.
i'm glad you like kid A so much. everyone should have a few records that they keep on such a pedastal. i certainly do. but i'll argue with your factually stated opinion till the cows or the monsters from kid a's artwork come home.

Yeah, I've heard You Forgot It In People. Great record. In my opinion. Capture The Flag is one of the greatest album openers I've ever heard in recent times. Almost Crimes, Stars And Sons, and Cause=Time...all great songs. In my opinion. Perfect drums and bass. In my opinion. Pacific Theme is one of my favourite instrumentals by any group over the last six years.

That said, I still think Kid A's better. You Forgot It In People - IN MY OPINION, since that little phrase is oh so important - doesn't quite touch the soundscapes that Radiohead produced with Kid A. Argue with me all you want, I can go for hours.

The 2nd was a mini disc copy that I made from my old room-mates copy of Kid A. Thought I'd give it another shot. That lasted 3 weeks, until i need to blank out the MD to record my farts after a weekend of my girlfriends chili. (surprisingly, the recorded farts weren't that different than the music that occupied the MD before)

As only recently I have started 'loving' any of Radiohead's material, I did buy Kid A upon advice from a friend ages ago and couldn't believe that this was music. I now own a genuine copy again, but it's still sorely lacking compared to the two previous albums. Still, I was encouraged by bits of Hail To The Thief (2+2=5, There There, Go To Sleep, WIEAYB, Punchup At A Wedding) and have recently fallen for Optimistic and How To Disappear and the unreleased Follow Me Around drool.

Also, before you condemn Kid A as the worst thing this decade, have you ever heard any of The Dears' releases? I can only assume that they are as bad as their live shows.

It took me a while to warm up to Kid A. And when I did... Initially, I had difficulty getting around the vocal effects. Love them now.

....but just because albums such as X&Y, Htdaab, Atyclb or Baby, One More Time are not necessarily innovative or unprecedented musical releases, it does not mean that they are bad albums.

That is the shallow view of many elitist fans who consider that if an album doesn't "push musical boundaries", it is immediately worthy of prejudicial attacks.

So prominent is the tiresome squawking from hardline, infalliable, "avant-garde" addicts (usually left-wingers), that they are often misinterpreted as supposed experts in all things artistic and creative, yet really they are more prejudiced than most.

Albums should be judged on the brilliance of the music that is generated, not on how "avant-garde" the artist may be.

"Avant-garde is French for bullshit", and while I may not agree with that quote entirely, a lot of "avant-garde" stuff out there is utter crap and far from brilliant.

Give me the new Nickelback album anyday than some of that "avant-garde" shit....

(Although I hate Nickelback, I prefer my music to resemble music. Like I prefer my paintings to be the result of the painter's talent. Up yours Jackson Pollock!)

and one last thing - i'm not sure why the kid a haters are able to hate on the album without attacking any of the fans of the album. meanwhile many of the album lovers need to resort to calling the haters morons or insulting their 'obvious' lack of musical taste or sophistication. you don't know me. all you know is i don't like kid a and probably like u2. second - there is no inherent virtue in being 'sophisticated' for the sake of sophistication. that describes prog rock.

and one more one last thing:
broken social scene may possibly be overrated, nowhere near as overrated as kid a. nevertheless, songs like 'pacific theme', 'kc accidental', 'stars and sons' and the mighty 'cause = time' make YFIIP my favorite album of the milennium, and probably the best of the last 10 years (rivals OK computer).
