No jokes about it, I can honestly say that Jeff Buckley was among, if not the, best songwriter of the 90's. WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE!!??!

He had an infinite amount of potential as we can see from his debut which evokes the strongest of emotions using complex songstructures and beautiful heart-breaking lyrics.
He was a man after my own heart...or I guess I'm a man after his heart. Lyrics I relate to, and a way of writing songs I can only admire; I swear he must have made up half of the chords he used!!

The covers he redone were often better than the original. One only need look at his cover of Hallelujah(L.Cohen) or the beautiful Lilac Wine(Nina Simone) to see this.

I'll just leave you with the evidence:

This song was played at his funeral. Its eerie how prophetic it is!

Satisfied Mind

how many times have you heard someone say
if I had his money, I would do things my way
but little they know, that it's so hard to find
one rich man in ten with a satisfied mind

money can't buy back your youth when you're old
friend when you're lonely, oh peace to your soul
the wealthiest person is a pauper at times
compared to the man with a satisfied mind

my life is over and my time has run out
my friends and my loved ones, i'll leave these no doubt
one things for certain, when it comes my time
i'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
i'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
my life is over and my time has run out

my friends and my loved ones, i'll leave these no doubt
but one things for certain, when it comes my time
i'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
one things for certain, when it comes my time
i'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind

other exerps

i know the tears we cried have dried on yesterday
the sea of fools has parted for us there's nothing in our way, my love
don't you see, don't you see?
you're just the torch to put the flame to all our guilt and shame,
and i'll rise like an ember in your name.

------------------

i feel afraid and i call your name
i love your voice and your dance insane
i hear your words and i know your pain
your head in your hands and her kiss on the lips of another
your eyes to the ground
and the world spinning round forever

asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over

More random Jeff Buckley quotes

All my tears flowing down as I try to forget
Her love was a joke from the day that we met
All of the words, all of the men
All of my pain when I think back to when
Remember her hair as it shone in the sun
The smell of the bed when I knew what she'd done
Tell yourself over and over you won't ever need her again...

But don't fool yourself
She was heartache from the moment that you met her
Oh, and my heart is frozen still
As I try to find the will to forget her somehow...
Yeah, I think I've forgotten her now...

Jeff Buckley is AWESOME. Run right out and buy Grace if you don't already have it.

Grace is absolutley flawless but I think I actually like cd1 of Sketches better!

Everybody Here Wants You, Witches Rave, Vancouver, The Sky Is a Landfill, Yard of Blonde Girls

they're all awesome!

And he and I shared a birthday.

Seriously, Grace is a gorgeous album. His cover of Hallelujah gives me shivers.

I'm a big fan of Buckley's too... his Grace album is so relaxing if nothing else. I had the shittiest day at work the other day, and when I got home I threw this album on, I swear - it's therapeutic. I was asleep in no time! Hallelujia is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard. I mean that in a good way. What a loss for the music world.

I really like Jeff Buckley and you know that it was five years since he dies- that is so amazing- it really does only seem like yesterday, but anyway one of the radio stations here in Australia had a tribute to him all day long with songs every hour or son and audio grabs- it was very nice to hear....................:)

oh and by the way do any of you here like Tim Buckley's music?????- Greeting's From LA is a superb album that I am sure most Jeff fans would love just for the spooky way in which Father and Son sound so similiar and such a way with words.....

I LOVE Jeff, I know I won't be able to find words here to say how his music makes me feel, how he, and how his voice, makes me feel.

Jeff's music touches me really like no other does, the melodies, the lyrics that go stright to your heart and explode it into a million pieces, his voice that can bring tears to your eyes. What can I say about this man? I'm not an expert by any means, I know that Jeff loves his music, though it sometimes frustrated him, but when you write and sing straight from the heart and soul, that is no surprise.
I never got to see Jeff live, and so I'm grateful to his sister Mary for helping to keep his memory alive in the release of Sketches and the live recordings (if you dont have these go and buy them now)
Jeff was also an incredibly beautiful guy, I think maybe the only guy I've wanted to look like, wanted to be like, sometimes.
Sorry I havent been able to tell you what the man, the music mean to me, so I'll let the music at least tell you.
These are the lyrics to I think my favourite Jeff Buckley song, Lover, You Should've Come Over, my other favourites are Last Goodbye, Grace, What Will You Say, The Way Young Lovers Do. I think Grace is one of the best albums ever made.

Looking out the door I see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners
Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water
And maybe I'm too young To keep good love from going wrong
But tonight you're on my mind so (you'll never know)
I'm broken down and hungry for your love With no way to feed it
Where are you tonight? Child, you know how too much I need it

Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run
Sometimes a man gets carried away When he feels like he should be having his fun
And much too blind to see the damage he's done
Sometimes a man must awake to find that, really, He has no one...
So I'll wait for you... And I'll burn
Will I ever see your sweet return, oh, or will I ever learn
Lover, you should've come over
Cause its not too late.

Lonely is the room the bed is made
The open window lets the rain in
Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him
My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come

It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder
It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when I sleep so soft against her...
It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter
It's never over, she is the tear that hangs inside my soul forever

Maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong
Oh... Lover you should've come over... 'cause it's not too late...
