Now We've made it to the Jamaica Inn! Somebody leave the light on!

487px-JamaicaInnSign.jpg

The Jamaica Inn is a free house in Bolventor, near the middle of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. Built as a coaching house in 1750, it is famous for being the base of smugglers in the past and known as the setting for Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name.[1] The young author was inspired to write her novel when, having gone horseriding on the moors she became lost in thick fog and sought refuge at the inn; whilst recovering from her ordeal the local rector is supposed to have entertained her with ghost stories and tales of smuggling; he would later become the inspiration for the enigmatic character of the Vicar of Altarnun.

The novel was made into the film Jamaica Inn in 1939 by Alfred Hitchcock and Jamaica Inn a 1983 television series starring Jane Seymour.

It is rumoured to be haunted and has featured in an episode of the British TV programme, Most Haunted, on the TV channel LIVINGtv. Notable apparitions include a malevolent figure of a highwayman in a tricorne hat and long green coat, an anguished young mother and her baby and the spirit of a young smuggler who is believed to have been murdered and who has been seen sitting on the wall in the courtyard. Also the whinnying of horses and a metal carriage has reportedly been heard over gravel in the courtyard in the middle of the night but the courtyard is today cobblestoned.

Psst, Daniel, the correct tag is "superthread", not "superthreads". :shh:

(I think you can correct it.)

So, shall we take bets on what month this thread will end in?

I'm taking September.

Also, Daniel, many points for resurrecting "superthread whores"!

Haha. That was a default option also! (I also really like the other tag as well :shh:)

In response to Following Crowdies/U2...I think I'll take u2...but it depends on dates and work, and Tafe. Hopefully no u2 shows fall on a monday!

With the rumours of U2 in December picking up, I wonder if there will be any clash with Muse ...!

Also, Alison, was going to e-mail you, but since we're here: ideas for dinner tonight? Do we just want to meet on Swan St, or do we want to go somewhere in the city beforehand? I fancy Indian/Nepalese ...

I'd like to see U2 at least once, but at the moment I'm far more excited about the Crowdies dates! If there's a clash, it'll be a fairly easy choice for me.

If the Crowdies were playing smaller venues, then a chance of an almost 3 hour epic set was to happen again, I'd probably follow them around. but I think I'll pass.

You would probably think so. Lets assume the Courier mail is spot on, and they come second week of December. There would likely be some sort of clash.

Yep. Hopefully at least the Melbourne date won't clash. Haven't heard anything about whether they're going to New Zealand ...

As for Crowdies, what strikes me is how much bigger Rod Laver is from all the other venues they are playing. Rod Laver does 15,000, then the next biggest is the Hordern in Sydney, which does 5,500 with a standing configuration - and no idea if the Crowdies will use that or the 3,500 seated config.

Well it will all be interesting. I'm pretty sure U2 will be here in December. Its just a matter of WHEN in December. I doubt they'll stay for Christmas/New Year and have shows on either side....but ya never know!

Lunch time

I was hoping more for March/April next year before they resume in North America, both to give me time to save and because that time of the year usually doesn't have quite as crowded a concert schedule.

But if it's going to be December ... well, I'll see how many gigs I get to. At the moment, I'm only saying Melbourne and New Zealand definitely (unless there is a clash).

Think we're about to go out too. Alison, post/e-mail me with dinner preferences.

Ali!

Bought the yarn for WhoScarf. How tall are you again? :hmm: Need to make sure it's long enough to dangle the way it needs to.

Great... everyone at work goes to lunch so I can finally spend more than 2 seconds looking at non-work stuff, and everyone here wanders off too. *L*

Email on the way, Ax...

Axver might hurt me for this, so I'm going to spoiler it...

Have you noticed he looks a bit like Rolf Harris? The "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport" guy?

BTW, I know all the words to that song. I can has Aussie citizenship nao, pls?

Hey Reggo! I am 5'11 in the oldspeak. Sorry for the extra work that might entail

How's your continuum today?

Ah, shorter than Tom Baker. No worries then.

Continuum is going well. Offered another WhoNut a WhoScarf. He hasn't taken me up on it yet.
