My iPod just went Bright Eyes crazy, evidently.

So how many songs do you all have on your iPods? Just out of curiosity.

Mine is just a hair shy of full at 4,402 songs, and I had a friend express surprise that I kept it that full. He said he put stuff on and took stuff off according to his mood. Do you guys do that, or do you just fill 'er up and satisfy your moods by creating new playlists?

3727 songs, don't really delete a whole lot unless it was an album I'm just trying out and I don't care for it.

What I find weird is that only 105 of my 3747 songs are by Bright Eyes, and yet on that ten I just posted, Bright Eyes accounted for 40%.

Shuffle does some weird things, none more weird than the time I got Coldplay's Everything's Not Lost (live @ Rockefeller Music Hall), Everything's Not Lost from the Parachutes record, and Everything's Not Lost (Live) from the Live 2003 DVD/CD back to back to back.

1) Bruce Springsteen - Waitin on a Sunny Day (acoustic at Barcelona)
2) Beck - Scarecrow
3) U2 - Babyface

5) At the Drive-In - Sleepwalk Capsules
6) Bright Eyes - One Straw
7) Bob Dylan - Desolation Row

6. Green Day - Panic Song
7. Foo Fighters - Friend Of A Friend
8. Bullet For My Valentine - The Poison
9. Muse - Thoughts Of A Dying Athiest

right now...um. 6,228. it's a 30GB. i keep adding stuff, as soon as it's full i'll probably delete some of the albums i'm carrying around that i never actually listen to. like u2

angel city outcasts - i'm an ACO
pearl jam - nothing as it seems
SSD - boiling point
fugazi - argument
bedouin soundclash - when the night feels my song
REM - undertow (live, england 7-30-1995)
dropkick murphys - forever (live, lowlands festival, 8-21-2004)
bruce springsteen - darkness on the edge of town (gothenburg 6-21-2003)
bruce springsteen - darkness on the edge of town (akron, OH 9-25-1996)

darkness on the edge of town twice, and in a row? 11,718 other songs could have come up instead.

1. Built To Spill--"Trimmed and Burning"
2. Mother Love Bone--"Mindshaker Meltdown"
3. Dave Mason--"Silent Partner"
4. Richard Ashcroft--"You On My Mind As I Sleep"
5. Fountains of Wayne--"Denise"
6. Neil Young--"I've Known Her So Long"
7. INXS--"The Gift"
8. Iron and Wine--"Faded from the Winter"
9. The Rolling Stones--"Winter" (eerie?)
10. Neil Young--"Computer Cowboy (a.k.a., Syscrusher)" (why the fuck do I have this?)

I have about 18,500 songs in my library, about 2,000 of which are on bootlegs. So I have a dynamic playlist that strips those out (along with most remixes, alternates, edits, and live versions, songs that are shorter than 1:30, songs that are longer than 10:00, and a few other criteria), which whittles it down to about 14,400. I use that whenever I want to put it on random, so the mix isn't as biased as my music collection is and I don't have to skip through seven versions of "New Year's Day" before it brings up something I want to hear.

That sounds like a good idea. I don't have nearly as many songs in my library as you do, but it is rather annoying scrolling down a billion Streets before you get to a different song.
