ipod help needed

how do i add mp3s to my ipod? i tried importing to itunes but itunes doesn't recognize the files

i'm at my friend's house and i have to figure this out tonite cuz i can't use itunes on my computer at home

Add the files to Itunes ie not import but select the "add" option
