Question: Generally speaking, do they sound anything like Good Charlotte, Three Doors Down, or Limp Bizkit?

Fuck no. I think it's kind of hard to describe exactly how they sound, really. The only label I can put them under is "rock," since they've sort of explored different styles a bit.

if you want, I can send you a song.

Very sad list.

For all the bullshit you dish, you're vanilla. Bland, alt/indie rock vanilla. Live a little. Explore new music (non-alt/indie rock), and actually embrace it.

Agreed. Let us bask in your greatness, Brau, because you are so much more clever than us at this music lark. Oh, and let us bash some 'elitist' 'music' fans on that ateaseweb board while we're at it.

Agreed. I suck, you are so much better than me. Please educate me because obviously this is affecting my life in ways that I cannot imagine. Help me spread my wings, fly away, and expand my horizons. Help me stop watching Veronica Mars. Help me stop pretending that indie rock is good music and help me start pretending that music released from 1961-1983 is automatically good music.

I'm including solo artists. Some of this is kind of always changing but at the moment:

1) U2
2) Aerosmith
3) The Rolling Stones
4) Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
5) Lisa Marie Presley
6) Billy Joel
7) The Beatles
8) Pink Floyd
9) The Cranberries
10) Sting/The Police

Queen should be in there somewhere too...

I don't see the point in lambasting someone else because of his or her musical preferences. There's times when a little teasing is okay, but other times... It's like walking up to a person and telling him he's worthless as a human being because he's enjoying Brand A's chocolate bar, when Brand B's chocolate bar is clearly so superior.

It's just music.

Favorites...but certainly not "the best," if you want me to be objective about this (which I can't do).

1) The Beatles
2) The Velvet Underground
3) U2
4) Talking Heads
5) Radiohead
6) Brian Eno
7) Bruce Springsteen (& The E Street Band)
8) Depeche Mode
9) The Cure
10) Super Furry Animals

We'll see how the new Hold Steady album works out in October. That has the potential to shake things up a bit. Also, Sleater-Kinney just missed this list, though I'm sure the recent break-up has probably made me more sympathetic to their being constantly overlooked.

I can't wait to post this and then, fifteen minutes later, remember about, like, six other artists/bands who I think are more deserving of a spot in my top ten. C'est la vie, I guess.

Is this an inside joke?

If it's not, it needs to stop. It's completely uncalled for and out of line, and everybody knows better.

If it is an inside joke...people need to bear in mind that inside jokes of such a nature are not going to come across as just fun and games to the general public that reads them here.

your ignorance for the most basic of things, such as thread titles and what they mean, is so obvious i'm not sure why i'm responding to this.

i know you're trying to get a rise, congrats. like your taste in music, it's very much yesterday.

my favourite bands of all time are listed. i couldn't take any of them out for other acts that i'm currently en7oying such as:

a) loscil
b) massive attack
c) the most serene republic
d) duo 505
e) manitoba / caribou (which, in hindsight, should definitely have made my original list)

there are more. mainly classical and electronic. so i don't like queen, hendrix and all the other stuff that came out at that time, big deal.

my list reflects what my favourites are... which is kind of funny. cause isn't that what this thread was about?

oooh a brian eno fan.

0007. Tool
0006. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

7. The Doors
8. The Killers
9. Belle & Sebastien
10. REM

Maybe a weird list... but that's mostly what I listen to

Brau, you have shown an unbelievable amount of arrogance in presuming the authority to tell people how 'shit' their taste in music is. Taste in music is a completely subjective thing and can't be qualified in any way. To think you know otherwise is arrogant, obnoxious, and snobbish. Get off your soapbox.

hmmm I think he was trying to say that Zoomy usually takes the authority and insults people for their taste..usually for being commercial/mainstream or sucky .. and for someone who does that.... his [Zoomy's] list wasn't exactly anything new or unheard of.

Regardless I think criticising people's taste is just lame & pointless,...though I've probably done it myself without noticing...with things like Bon Jovi, and Coldplay I suppose
:reject:

but yeah if anyone has music taste that's random and "crappy" to others,...then it's probably me
but fuck it, I love it
that's what counts!

1. The Beatles
2. U2
3. R.E.M.
4. Radiohead
5. Crowded House
6. The Rolling Stones
7. The Beach Boys
8. Björk
9. Dire Straits
10. Billy Joel

I could have put John Lennon as a solo artist on it too, but that would have been unfair since he is already represented.
