Well done.

I was trying to think of something Hot Rice related... but this will do.

I did the same, was trying to come up with a good Hot Rice title but failed.

The above is an FYI.
Simple answer is that you should just watch as many of them as you can. They're all amazing. Doesn't matter where you start either I'd imagine. Nausicaa is my favorite though. One of my favorite films period, actually. Like top 10 material. Castle in the Sky is another underrated gem.

And I'll repost this, for the benefit of Miyazaki praise.

The one for Nausicaa is surprisingly spoilerish, so just be warned for whoever hasn't seen that film yet.

I just watched a hilarious comedy film for the first time.

It's called Gran Torino.

I bet it was still better than Hancock.

I've never seen Hancock.

My cousins down the shore raved about this great film Gran Torino. I saw it and am surprised that they'd have strong feelings over what was clearly a clever parody film. I think the origin of the film was that someone showed Clint Eastwood what Wikipedia was and he found his way to the page listing a bunch of Asian slur words.

You said you've seen very little of his work. Have you seen any? And what if so?

If that's all, you're in for a real treat when you check out his other sort of films (Mononoke, Nausicaa, Laputa...)

Yeah, unless my memory is faulty, that's it. This is one of those genres I always like when I experience it but rarely go out of my way to do so, for whatever reason.

Worth noting, probably--I have now seen Ponyo twice. Once in Japan (in Japanese), and once in America (in English). Both were awesome, the latter one much to my surprise.

I've no doubt Ponyo's another minor classic in the works. How was the English dub? Parts of what I've heard in the Disney trailers have me a little worried.

Also, I just heard Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a German mad scientist in the new G.I. Joe movie?

I'm so there.

The English dub was surprisingly good, given my similar concerns. Betty White and Lilly Tomlin were pretty awful, yes, and Damon sounded sort of lost...but, really, the translation is mostly to blame. At times, it was way too literal and not nearly as colloquial as it could've been (much to my surprise). The big one is this--both the Cyrus kid and the Jonas kid were WONDERFUL. Really, seriously, genuinely wonderful. They carried the movie with shocking ease. Very impressive.

I heard Miley Cyrus did a pretty solid job in Bolt as well. Hell, I heard the whole movie's pretty good, too.

Good news then, especially about the leads. But really, you got it right regarding the problem with dubs. It's never the actually voice acting so much as the issues that come up with the necessities of translation and syncing to the animation. A lot of times the script suffers as a result, even if the actual dub talent is pretty solid. I remember Howl's Moving Castle suffered from this a bit as well, even though the voice talent was pretty great all around in that one.
