I've been trying to upgrade to blu-ray strategically, both in finding discounts and upgrading first only those whose HD transfers see the most drastic benefit of the format, i.e. Miami Vice and Blade Runner.

Glad you mentioned those two, as I'm mainly trying to pick the movies I think will look the most impressive picture wise in Blu-Ray as well. Any others you recommend?

Also, I did watch Speed Racer in HD one time... and it was glorious.

If that's your sort of thing.

That's a stretch.

YLB, are you telling Scumbo not to buy Heat on Blu-Ray?

See below:

I think he just meant to "save your monies" for purchasing it when it's released in November. I look forward to seeing the "great ass" scene in HD. Also, Val's hair blowing in the wind....or something.

Yep.

I look forward to seeing how the New World EC Blu Ray shapes up next month. That should be astonishing, provided they don't scrimp on the transfer.

That's fair. I'd probably only upgrade films with stellar cinematography, only decent transfers, or fucking badass action films.

Shit, Lolita and Annie Hall are still non-anamorphic on DVD. WTF???

The Third Man in Blu Ray apparently looks gorgeous. That's one of the first ones I'd get.

I just bought the Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven for like 5 bucks the other day. Talk about underrated. I've come around on this film after my sort of lukewarm response to it a few months back.

Yeah, I really need to be strategic with the Blu-Ray purchases. I have like 325 traditional DVDs and it will be tempting to start replacing....but, I need to only do it when it makes the most sense.

Crouching Tiger seems like one I'd love to upgrade, though. Kingdom of Heaven, Casino Royale and Quantam as well.

NSW, if you have a MovieStop in the area or any place that'll accept trade-ins, I'd recommend going that route, so you get some money back.

I'll look into that, thanks.

But, I first need to figure which I'll upgrade. I mean, like everyone is saying, I only want to get the Blu-Ray versions of films that are going to really be enhanced by the upgrade.

I still cannot get over how crisp and sharp The Dark Knight looked.

I'm not sure I'd get The Third Man personally. It's just not something I'd find myself watching all that often.

Oh, I totally get you. The best thing about getting something like Blade Runner is that if you have the 5-Disc DVD set, you can pretty much sell that for close to the price of the Blu Ray.

And you know the Star Wars and Indy films (not counting Crystal Skunk) won't be out for another year or two either...

Wow, $25 a year now, just so go back to the avatar and sig size I've been enjoying the past couple years?

*interferencesigh*

For a signature, I enjoy the size. Forces me to make some unusual creative decisions. I wonder if I can just give them like 5 or 10 bucks just to get my av/sig back, and they can still keep all the other features.

Yeah, I end up liking what you come up with. Hah, give it a shot.

North by Northwest is hitting Blu in November. High-def Hitch = win.

There's really only three names ... Dr. Albert Schweitzer ... Mother Teresa of Calcutta, probably ... and Leo Marvin.

YLB, this week's episode of Battleship Pretension is excellent.

One moment in particular has me crying with laughter too.

Mashed potatoes and gravy, Marie.

I just got through the John Hughes / trailers and marketing episode and really dug it. Now I'm excited for the next one, hah.

I got my brother hooked on The Room last week. Then we tossed the football around the hallway with my other brothers.
