Mods, please sticky this?

Okay, this is an opportunity for Interference to nominate and then vote for their favorites for this past year in film.

I am going to follow the Academy Awards official procedures, which basically means a lot of legwork on my end. What is required from you is a listing of your Top 5 choices in each category, ranked in order of preference, #1 being your favorite, and so on.

Through some bizarre mathematical equations, I will determine the nominees, and then we will vote on those.

I am cutting out some of the more technical and specialized categories, including Documentary, Animated Feature, and Foreign Film, as most would have trouble listing more than a few. Feel free to nominate any of these for Best Film.

If you have any questions (like "What is Art Direction, anyway?") just ask. Art Direction, by the way, is the design and dressing of the sets, which includes the wallpaper and paint on the walls, the look of the props, etc. If you're not sure if a film's screenplay is adapted or original, just ask.

Here are the list of Categories:

BEST PICTURE
BEST DIRECTOR
BEST ACTOR
BEST ACTRESS
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
BEST EDITING
BEST ART DIRECTION
BEST COSTUMES
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

Please post your list inside this thread when you have it completed.

I'd say we should give it a couple weeks?

I'd want the whole thing done before the Oscars, after which it will be anticlimactic.

We could open the thread to For Your Consideration ads, such as this one:

BENICIO DEL TORO -- THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE (Actor)

or this one...

Here's a question.

I'm Not There.

Original or Adapted?

Original. It's almost all fictional, anyway. A handful of Blanchett and Whishaw's lines are verbatim quotes, but that's it.

and that reminds me...

THE DARJEELING LIMITED (... supp. actor)

Nice choice, Lo Pan. I bet you're a fan of Coldplay's Green Eyes.

Even though it's a fairly obvious choice, I think this film should be considered for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography...

I have my list pretty much set. Just waiting to see if The Diving Bell shakes things up, and trying to settle on the order of my top 2 picks for Best Picture.

Indeed!

I actually have a friend getting DVD screeners from a friend of his in the Academy, so I may be able to cram some movies in after The Godfather in the coming week.

Still waiting to see Diving Bell and maybe Michael Clayton if I get the chance before I submit my final list.

And The Lives of Others was surely a 2006 film...

When the hell did you see it? End-of-the-year foreign releases are barely seen by anyone.

If I'm not mistaken, it was submitted for foreign language but wasn't actually released here until 2007.
