Just got back.

Wasn't terribly impressed. Beautiful touching film, but it doesn't touch some of the more masterful works we've seen this year. I may have to give it a nod for cinematography, but other than that, I think my list is fairly fixed. I'll post it in a little bit.

In case you can't read that, it says "YOU'RE WRONG".

I'm also not sure if Diving Bell is going to wind up with any noms. Too strong of a year.

Um, what?

Isn't this exactly what I said? You must be wrong too then, fool.

It touches them, but in a year of many masterpieces it's just surpassed by a handful of others. This is Top 5, Top 3 level any other year.

OK, fine so you'd separate it by a point or so from me if you used the same scale. Big deal.

I was impressed, but given the response this film received, I was expecting something on the level of No Country or I'm Not There. It wasn't quite.

Still excellent though.

LMP: Well we're gonna need more than the 5 ballots we have so far, so as long as it takes. 10 days, maybe?

Lance: Nice list, but Tomei in Lead? No way. She may have the largest female role in the film, but she's Supporting.

Also, regardless of how the studio was promoting them, I think the Pitt/Affleck classifications should be reversed. The story is more about the tragic arc of Ford. But that's more of a personal call.

Lastly, Eastern Promises for Special Effects? You realize that was actually Viggo's junk and not CGI, right?

Alright, I'll try and at least see 2-3 more movies before then. I'm lacking in several categories right now.

Good catch on Tomei. That's a mistake.

And as for the Pitt/Affleck thing, I actually agree with you, but I'm just going with how the studios and awards committees did it.

All those gory fights and cuts and slashes can fit under special effects for the most part. Well, I guess they more straddle the line between that and makeup, but Cronenberg deserves another mention just for how well he does it all.

Lance, you could actually get away with doing a swap and putting Bonham-Carter in lead, unless you had a strong #6 in mind. She has enough screen time.

Diving Bell would be in my Top 5 for the year, I found it to be very moving, but, I did not see 2-3 films that might possibly supplant it.

I am enjoying this thread.

He could put in Kelly Macdonald from No Country. She's going in mine for sure.

Surprised to see no Josh Brolin love either.

Have you seen enough to make a ballot at some point?

I should have put in the original rules that lists of 3 or whatever would be welcome. It will all be weighted accordingly.

Laz, I don't think that I KNOW enough to make a ballot.

I've seen enough films, but to be honest, I don't think my knowledge of film is strong enough to submit an educated vote for some of the categories (and, I do know their definitions).

I've seen about 8-9 films worth putting in, but really only 3 legit Oscar contenders (No Country, Juno, and Sweeney Todd) and a bunch of fun ones (Hot Fuzz, Knocked Up, Death Proof, Sunshine, Darjeeling Limited, 3:10 to Yuma)

I'm planning on seeing I'm Not There, Eastern Promises, Zodiac, and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead next week and the rest of my picks during that all-day Oscar screening that Saturday before the real ceremony.

I may just throw down TWBB in those categories because I know I will enjoy it.

Really people might as well just nominate as much as they can regardless of how confident they are in the technicalities. Either way, the best films are going to get a ton of votes, and the final ballot will be respectable no matter what. Just base the lists on what you've seen, that's why this thing is unique to Interference.

I agree, but I'd like to see some more to broaden my choices, you know?

I hear you Lance, but that might be like me asking you to name the best run blocking Tackle in the NFL this year. Yeah, it's easy to name Brady as best QB, but you have to watch a lot of football and understand the nuances of the game to choose something like best run blocking Tackle. I don't want to just vote No Country or TWBB when in doubt.

I just pre-ordered JJ from Amazon last night, and because I also bought McCarthy's THE ROAD (!), was eligible for Free Shipping. Got both for $26.
