Quick, everyone; tell me how amazing it is until the hypometer is so sky high it couldn't possibly live up to expectations and I end up horribly disappointed. :hyper:

The Cure is another one of those bands I've been curious about. Listening to 30 second samples from Disintegration right now.

I've always found them to be a good band, with a talent for creating intersting music, but I can't get over the sublimely pretentious aura that seems to surround them and their work.

I think it one of those albums that grabs you and takes you to a place far away. The music sucks you in, as it's played by a band completely passionate about the music coming from them.

how's that for pretentious?

my favorite cure album and one of the best ever:drool:

pictures of you
lullaby

prayers for rain

The Same Deep Water as You:combust:

and The Cure are

It's ok, if you like that type of thing.

There. That calm the hypometer a bit? :)

You might not like it :p

in fact I recommend you start with their earlier stuff

get "The head on the door" "Seventeen Seconds" "Three Imaginary Boys."
instead..

"Boys don't Cry" = one of the best songs ever:combust:

This is the only Cure album I've really cared for. Even on their greatest hits CDs, there are only a handful of songs I really like.

But Disintegration ... it's great to play while you're sitting in the dark and brooding.

I actually prefer the non-hits on this album (although I really do love "Fascination Street," which is probably the most upbeat song on the album). "Plainsong" gorgeous.

Perhaps I did make the wrong decision getting this one first without knowing much about the band, but hey, I have made some great purchases that way, EG: OK Computer.

Along with Disintegration, I'm also getting:

Meeting People Is Easy
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
The Byrds - Greatest Hits
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (deluxe)
U2 Until The End of The World (the book)

All for $73. Amazon.com FTW.

As people from the Desert Island game might know from my introduction, "Plainsong" is the first song that ever made me cry.

I remember so clearly sitting on the couch in the living room (I would have been about, what?, 14 years old) and my Dad put the cd on and when "Plainsong" finally bursts in, I just got chills over my whole body, goosebumps broke out on my arms and I started to cry.

Music had never done that to me before and I was completely surprised and astounded by my reaction. And in fact, I've never really had a first reaction like that to any piece of music ever again . . . . . at least upon a first listen.

Hope that doesn't set the bar too high, Lemon.

It's an amazing album. Like someone else said, if you switch off the lights and give it your full attention it will transport you to another world.

It's my second favourite Cure album - Pornography being the first.

I find that about Morrissey...though there does seem to be a bit of a Bob vs Moz thing:hmm:

Disentegration is one of the greatest albums ever. Plainsong is the greatest opening track of all time. When it kicks in after those chimes, oh man. And Closedown is so awesome. I love this album, and don't really like the Cure all that much.

Finally word of clever human being. That album is more than BRILLIANT. Pictures of you, Fascination street and every song is f...brilliant. Robert Smith is a totally different guy than Morrissey, btw.

A fantastic album, one of my favorites.
Almost every song is simply spectacular.

The album is perfect, every song is brilliant, I don't remember half the song names on it, it's one of those albums where you don't pay attention to the songs, it's just an experience to listen to straight through...*turns album on* . So yeah basically it's amazing

Why doesn't anybody like Faith? That's my favourite

*raises hand* I love Faith, probably about as much as Disintegration actually. Seventeen Seconds is right up there too.
