go no further than Bad Religion's new album, Empire Strikes First

it is intelligent and edgy pop punk with a hard political/activist edge.
it's not all on the bush - hating bandwagon either, which - although I don't like the guy - is getting OLD FAST

these guys sing about human strife VS politics in general

catchy melodies...yet mature, original sounding, and intricate

check it

I completely agree.

Interestingly, I was just listening to some Bad Religion songs from this album before I opened this thread. Sweet irony!!!

for a good change, he doesn't have a whiney Billy Joel voice either

if you're thinking about getting American Idiot...DON'T
get this one instead ;)

it's been out since last june, basstrap, where have you been??

greg graffin is much smarter than bille joe armstrong. so yeah, lyrically 'let them eat war' is in a completly different class compared to 'american idiot'

bad religion really aren't considered pop-punk by most people...

I know both of those thinsg

I've had this album for months, but it is still their new album.

newest

it is definitly more pop-punk than their older album.
that's one reason I don't like as much as I could...it sounds too pristine sometimes.

but it's really growing on me.

I really like the L.A. is Burning one

yeah, june 2004.

l.a. is burning was the single...yet for some reason, my favorite song on the album.

yes, it's poppier than say...suffer or no control. but it sure as hell ain't yellowcard or simple plan. that's what i meant.

why?
I like anything - in any genre - if it's good.
hell, I even like the new Dillinger Escape Plan though I swore a long time ago NEVER to like hardcore.

as for punk/ post punk. etc...
lately I've been into
The Fall, Les Savy Fav, and the Futureheads

i don't know, actually. i just...you know, i really don't know.

cool.

I haven't actually heard about this. Well, I have, but I've never really followed up. I'd get some nice stuff off soulseek but I'm too lazy to. I'll remember it for the future, then.

I wouldnt even call The Hives punk, they're indie rock.

That's just me though.

yeah, i'm with mofo on that one. they were on that one punk o rama comp, but that was before 'hate to say i told you so' or whatever it was called...
