I did the spa thing once - she came back and said she did not the feel of someone elses hands on her back (so I retain the backrub monopoly ).

Small and personal will win the day.

Once, I bought a box of valentines for kids (the kind you hand out in class), wrote a short note on each one and hid them thoughout the house. She loved searching for them.

Last year, I got her a basket for her bike and filled it with small, fun items (candies, soaps, etc.). Everything was pink.

If you have kids, there are plenty of creative fun items that you can get from digital pictures of the kids.

from a girl's point of view, i'd like something that didn't cost a lot, maybe taking her to do something where you first met (unless it's an icky or otherwise weird place), i all of nbcrusader's ideas, i would just keep it simple

Personally I think it is over-rated and just an excuse for card companies, restaurants and florists to make lots of extra moolah! In a relationship shouldn't EVERY day be Valentine's Day?!!!
