i need help with e-file!!!!!!

i'm filing my taxes right now using efile for the first time.
since they've taken away my beloved telefile

this may be a stupid question, but where the heck do i get my taxpayer's pin #?
is it something i just make up?
or do i have to look it up somewhere?

i need it to electronically sign my return

edit: i'm using h&r block's free e-file

did you get a post card from the IRS re: e-file? I believe the pin should be on there.

in the past i've self-selected a pin.

http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,...,00.html#PIN1:
The Self-Select PIN (Personal Identification Number) method allows taxpayers to electronically sign their e-filed return by selecting a five-digit PIN as their signature. The five-digit PIN can be any five numbers except all zeros. The taxpayer will need their original AGI from their prior year (Tax Year 2004) tax return and their Date of Birth for verification purposes. It eliminates the requirement for Form 8453, U.S. Individual Income Tax Declaration for an IRS e-file Return, in most cases, making e-filing returns TRULY PAPERLESS for most taxpayers.

edit: dang .. you beat me to it

i've been looking on there too lol.

i'm thinking it's just a number i make up?

do i use my birth date?

Quote:
Why is a Date of Birth required with the Self-Select PIN method?

The Date of Birth is required as part of the authentication process for the taxpayer. It will be matched against Social Security Records. The return will not be rejected if the Date of Birth does not match. However, the Acknowledgement Record will contain the field Date of Birth Validity Code. It will advise you if the dates of birth submitted were valid or mismatched. The following values will be returned:

*
"0" = Date of Birth Validation Not Required
*
"1" = All Dates of Birth Valid
*
"2" = Primary Date of Birth Mismatch
*
"3" = Spouse Date of Birth Mismatch
*
"4" = Both Dates of Birth Mismatch
i'm so confused lol

CALM DOWN ABEL!!! You are causing yourself a lot of uneccesary stress!

You pick your own PIN...any 5 digit number will work. You need it to sign back in and verify your return has been accepted.

Edited to add: NO, you don't use your birthdate as a PIN. You use your birthday ALONG with a PIN.
