larryMullensPop Angel? you too?
I am usually the shy retiring type, but "Brown Sugar" is one song I cannot resist. Bit like a rat and the Piped Piper, it lures me to the dance floor. it must have been grand , sharing an experience like that with your father.
My sons don't smoke and the eldest gets ill from being around pot smokers, so it is tricky, how to ensure everyone has the concert experience they are hoping for.
As always, it's a question of balance, use or abuse. It is sad how the "stretcher cases" get the attention and publicity. I was prepared to drive my boys on a 6 hour round trip so they could attend Under 18 heavy music concerts. There was a promoter at the Gold Coast who wanted to put something on for the school age people. Unlike so many of the parents and general public who rang upradio talkback to complain about the events in an attempt to stop them...I WAS THERE!! I saw what went on. It was not at all like they were describing...there were about 992 people between 12 and 18 ( the girls dressed to the nines and feeling good, the boys ignoring them) they were socialising and dancing and being very very well behaved.
The 8 sad souls who for one reason or another, got themselves into a staggering state, were immediately controlled by the ample security and medical staff. I was at the back of the venue for some time during the show (talking to the the singer's mother...she drove them to the gig..nice boys too) They had an ambulance room with about 6 staff on duty. Only one girl was brought in and she was just overwhelmed ( and a bit underfed by the look of her)
But anyway, the story was blown out of proportion, the "good" people prevailed. That venue has been closed down. There is nowhere for people Under 18 to hear their music, anywhere near here now.
i know what you are saying and bad manners are bad manners, no matter how off ya face you may be. I think people who go that far are foolish, but it's sad how they grab the headlines and the other kids then miss out.
I'm glad you got to see No Doubt and Garbage, but sorry about the circumstance. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers will be here in Oz soon. I'm babysitting so my friends can go to Sydney ( I secretly wish I was going,,,ah well, I'll be grooving to The Wiggles.)
