I downloaded a Cure song last night...

There's a TAC (road safety) commercial on here at the moment, and I liked the song that played over it, called Pictures of You. So I googled it, and The Cure version was the one that came up. It's not the same as the one in the ad, but my god is it fantasic.

It seriously blew my mind. On two levels: the song was just fantabulous, but also that The Cure, going by this song, are nothing like the band I expected them to be. I thought they were this first emo band in a punk era... and my interest in them waned after seeing a few pics, and even further when Robert Smith popped up on a blink182 song.

Worth getting into? An album? A best of? Just some songs maybe?

the Cure .. worth getting into??

ummmm .... YES!

Funnily enough, I'm listening to 'Disintegration' right now, one of my fave CDs.

I STILL adore 'Pictures of You'

Disintegration is a masterpiece.

Wish, Kiss Me 3x, Pornography and Bloodflowers... all excellent albums.

I think there are a couple of compilations around, but you might as well get one of the live albums (Show 2-cd, Paris, or Concert which features older stuff). Disintegration is widely regarded as their Masterpiece, though my favourites are Seventeen Seconds and Faith (the more depressing stuff). The Head on the Door is a classic too, as is Wish.

You have a lot of catching up to do, so you might as well get started right away.

In my opinion, Disintegration is one of the best albums of the 1980s. It's a great album from start to finish and you should pick it up ASAP. Like, right now! Go!

Yeah the greatest hits is crackin'. the one with the blue cover with elements of yellow. Never been motivated to get anymore of their stuff, but it's good shit.

If you like these guys, you might wanna flirt with The Smiths and the Stone Roses...not the same by any means, but defintely worth checking out

The Cure are one of the most influential and important artists of the last 25 years. Their back catalog of music is as good as anyone's, and unlike U2, they're not obsessed with trying to continue being popular and instead have released music for themselves and their fans. As Yertle mentioned, their live shows are incredibly enjoyable, long, and delve into a lot of fan favorites instead of only big radio hits like most artists their age. Robert Smith is God.

If you pirate their music again, people will be looking at their pictures of you dead.

Well, to be fair, they did release two greatest hits compilations. One of which had one new track.
