Just random memborable events from life....

----------

A few years ago I jumped out of a plane, freefall, from 12,000 feet.

My freshman year in college I was sick with a fever and chills. Somehow
I made it to the nurse's office in the student union building. In the
waiting room were two other students and a Nurse Ratched type lady
sitting behind a desk. I was given a four page form on a clipboard along
with a pencil. “Please return both to me when you’re through,” the devil
woman ordered. I slowly returned to my chair on the other side of the room
(probably ten feet away), and filled out the medical questionnaire and then
returned the clipboard to the nurse's desk.

A couple of minutes later, I looked down and realized that I still had the
pencil in my hand. The nurse left to check on a student in an adjoining
room, and feeling sick and too tired to get up again, I tossed the pencil in
the direction of her desk. At that moment, the nurse appeared in the doorway
and with the look of death in her eyes saw that I was throwing the pencil.
Time stood still and in what felt like life in slow motion, I, the two other students,
and satan’s nurse watched as the pencil somersaulted high in the air across the room,
and then landed perfectly inside of the pencil cup holder on her desk.

All I could do was nonchalantly shrug my shoulders. Any other time, I probably would
have gotten up and celebrated and danced around the room.

My fever was 104.

never jumped out of a plane, but have done the "catapult" ride. you basically get shot in the air a few hundred feet and spin in all sorts of directions for a while and then bounce A LOT attached to a huge rubberband.

I have scored, David Beckham style, a curling free kick during a game of street soccer.

Granted we were playing it at a basketball court and the distance wasn't too great, and because we were playing it at a basketball court there wasn't a keeper, but I still got a lot of curl on it.

I've also scored a penalty kick where I chipped it down the centre a la Panenka.

I shall think of some non-soccer ones later.

the evil knievel influence

When I was ten, after the leaves had fallen, my brother and I raked a big pile of leaves into the street.
We then took two large wooden boards and set up two bicycle ramps that were held up by cinder blocks.
We would then light the leaves on fire and with our banana seat bikes would race down the hill and
jump the burning leaves....sometimes flying ten to fifteen feet through the air.

you're such a daredevil Westport!

I didn't do the hard part but the ultimate cool moments of my life...

were being there when my kids were born.

I cut four umbilical cords. I held their hands. I gave them their first baths.
I put on their first diaper. I swaddled them in their first blankets.

There is nothing like a newborn baby and the ongoing love of a child.

Boy, Girl, Girl, Boy

The first goal I scored during my first game of organized league hockey when I was like 15. I took a pass off a faceoff to the left of the net, and put a wrist shot through the legs of two player and through the goalie's five hole. I even did a little spin move and raised an arm in the air as I turned away from the net, hearing the cheer
