I am phonetically challenged

am I the only who is left only more puzzled of how a word is pronounced after reading it in phonetics?

When a word is written out phonetically, it is written out how it is pronounced. For example, the word "phonetic" would be written phonetically like -> "foh neh tik" or "fa neh tik" depending upon your dialect.

The dictionary writes most of its entries phonetically next to each word entry.

I did edit at first because I didn't think I had made my point properly.. but with pronunciations.. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer.. so your reply is totally valid
