Album of depressing thoughts, depair, loss

The best hypothetical album in this category - 11 songs allowed
- in order

1. Whales and Wasps - Alice and Chains - The perfect start for the album

2. the golden age - Beck - the most under-rated song on sea change

3. the day we left down - magnet

4. in my place - coldplay - the least depressing of the lot

5. Isolation - joy division - bit faster music

6. way to club - blur

7. Let down - radiohead - by far the best song ever

8. condemnation - depeche mode - the moans continue

9. comfortably numb - pink floyd - getting subdued - time to hypnotize yourself

10. prodigal - porcupine tree - elegantly wasted

11. mother of the disappeared - U2 - the perfect closure for the perfect album

#11 Belle & Sebastian - The Boy Done Wrong Again

well...one reviewer said this of Pedro The Lion's Achilles Heel

"depravity abounds in these songs; I counted at least five shattered relationships, two deaths, two imminent suicides, one drunken bed-shitting and a pushy evangelist who ignores even the Holy Spirit's plea to "shut the fuck up"

Elliott Smith - Either / Or
most of what he writes has an obvious air of meloncholy
I can't wait until this fall!

"This is a low" - Blur
"Hey Jupiter" - Tori Amos
"Space Oddity" - David Bowie (really tears me up, I dunno why)
"Under pressure" - Bowie/Queen (same thing! bust out the kleenex)
anything by Starsailor

I know I can list more - lord knows all I ever do is listen to depressing music.

Songs wise, I'm not sure.

Actual 'depressing albums' -wise, I'd say 'Faith' by The Cure is about the most depressing thing I've ever heard.

Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind

A really depressing album. Strangely, it always makes me feel happy (maybe because I then know there's always someone more depressing than me).

The song 'Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me' by The Smiths is pretty dang depressing.

I'll give this a try, though I wish I had my CDs in front of me to help me out. These are in no particular order:

How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead
Love Is Blindness - U2
Trouble - Coldplay
I've Seen It All - Bjork, Thom Yorke
Cast No Shadow - Oasis
My Sweet Prince - Placebo
My Beloved Wife - Natalie Merchant
Northern Lad - Tori Amos
Burger Queen - Placebo
Round Here - Counting Crows
In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction - Idlewild
