so... do you love Stern? hate him? indifferent?

i think he's hilarious- been listening to his show for years. yeah, he can be a jerk, and i don't love the whole porno/stripper aspect of the show (mostly i just find it kinda boring!). but his interviews of celebs are fantastic, and i love when he comments on politics/current events....

what do you all think?

I don't really care for his show, not because it's "offensive" or anything like that, because I'm personally not offended by the content. It's just not something that really appeals to me, personally. But I did like in that movie how he'd stick it to the censors (although I do wish that, instead of recently deciding to go to Sirius, he'd stick around and use the money he most definitely has to take the FCC to the Supreme Court and fight this whole battle there). He's perfectly entitled to say/do what he wishes on his show. If you don't like it, simply change the station.

 good point!

i don't know about the whole sirius move, either... i think he was fed up with having to deal with censors- he felt like it was a bit of a "witch hunt" directed towards him... he thinks that by moving to sirius, he will help to change the entire structure of radio as we know it. :| i guess we'll see if he's successful...

thanks for your post, angela! :)

"If you don't like it, change the station."

That's exactly what I do. Everytime I come across his show on the air, my brain starts feeling like it is being turned to mush.

I don't like the porn/ stripper stuff, but I do sort of enjoy the relationships on the crew and when celebrities go on there. I just think it's strange when people get all riled up about that show, to me it's pure schtick and Howard is basically an insecure mess  I lost interest in the show and hardly listen now.

My weird Howard related moment-when I went to a Vote For Change concert, I passed Gary Dell'Abate on the street when I was walking from my hotel. He looked at me like I was going to ask him for an autograph or something..he's a Bruce fan, I never saw him at the concert.

I did like the Private Parts movie, it was sort of cute. Too bad his marriage ended..

Thanks :). It's nice to see others do just that, because for a while there I was getting worried that people were forgetting they had that option, LOL :p.

Oh, yeah, I understand why he's moving there. I just wish he'd find a way to fight to get whatever problems censors and regular radio have fixed without moving to another type of radio. But yeah, we'll see what happens.

On a sad note, we lost the Stern show here about three weeks ago over a contract dispute. I have to wait til January to hear him again, aside from the E-show...

yes, artie is AWESOME and CRAZY! love him. there is a hilarious E! show when they were in Vegas last year, and Artie was wasted, and had to be taken back to his hotel room in a wheel chair, and then he kept walking into walls and falling over the couch... :lmao: he's really great- i sincerely hope that they play up his alcohol abuse though... would hate for something bad to happen to him.

that's too bad you lost the show. :( i don't know what i'd do w/out my morning Stern fix- it really puts me in a good mood. but at least you'll get him back in January- and the show will probably be better than ever on satellite. and the E! show is usually really great- Gary in a Birka/Beekeeper's helmet is just too funny...

I was thinking about some of my favorite things on the show

one was when Gary made that tape for his girlfriend years ago that they dredged up and kept playing over and over, that was funny

I also loved when Howard read that letter Kathie Lee Gifford wrote to him when he announced his separation, how could she have not realized he would read it on the air? :der:

I remember once when Howard was talking about being at a party w/ Bono and Yoko Ono, he was convinced they were huddled in the corner talking about him

Stuttering John made me laugh too

For some strange reason I always remember turning that show on on 9/11, it was strange

oh yes, i definitely remember the Gary videotape that he sent to his girlfriend... i think they dig that thing up about once a year! it's pretty freaking hilarious...

and i hear you about the 9/11 thing- howard stern is actually how i learned that something major was happeneing. i was getting dressed for work, listening to stern, and all of a sudden he starts talking about how a plane has hit the WTC... i immediate ran into the living room and turned the TV on... :(

I wasn’t a fan but last fall when Howard was in the midst of his battle with the FCC, I became a daily listener. I was fascinated with the fact that a conservative like Stern was taking the Bush administration to task on virtually a daily basis. I mean, this is a guy who in the past had been vocal about his support for conservative candidates such as Christie Todd Whitman, Pataki and Giuliani. I still listen to him because he’s the only broadcaster I know of that is vocal about the federal government’s ridiculous censorship practices, and I am intrigued by his complaints that every other radio and tv personality has been silent on the issue (i.e., too afraid to say anything that would be considered a challenge to the FCC) – which will surely hurt them in the long run because they’re going to have to curb their language even more. The First Amendment is being trampled.

Anyhoo, I like:

Robin reading the news

The Friday National Enquirer game

When “Scott” enters the room, Howard et al are usually bitching at him and they always play the drop of the girl yelling “SCOTT!” That makes me laugh every time.

Yeah, Ally, that drop of Kiefer Sutherland saying "latin…. 'gravitas'" is hysterically funny. Poor poor Kiefer. :lmao:

Several weeks ago one of Robin’s news items was about a plane crash and she read aloud about the actual crash landing and while she’s reading you hear the 3 Stooges going “nyah, nyah, nyah!” I’m sorry, I found that ridiculously funny.

Don’t care for the racial humor.

The porn star stuff:

I think Howard Stern is at his best doing celebrity interviews.

I don't like the racial stuff at all, like that Daniel the KKK guy  I don't think Howard is racist though

I love that tape they always played w/ Howard's father yelling at him -" I told you not to be stupid you moron"

Remember Hank the angry drunken dwarf? RIP :(

I like Robin, she's supposed to be doing a pilot for her own TV show

yes, RIP, Hank...

they have another angry little person now- is it Eric the Midget? the one that High Pitch played the Kelly Clarkson joke on... his voice sounds so evil!

i like Jeff the Drunk too... hahaha... Eric the Stutterer is kinda gross though. :madspit:

I'd like to think that I have a decent sense of humor, but, Howard has never made me laugh, really, and I lived in NYC long before he was a National presence on the air. Sure, if I listened to an hour, I'd laugh once or twice. But when I watch something like The Daily Show, I laugh countless times in 30 minutes.

I'd never say something like "Stern's not funny", he obviously is to many many people. But, for me, he's more cruel and playing to the lowest common denominator than anything else.

I do, however, greatly respect his longevity and his war with the FCC.

He jumped the shark when Clear Channel dumped him, and he started whining incessantly about the FCC and Powell and Bush.

It sucked the life right out of the show, for a long time. He became an insufferable martyr.

Haven't listened since.

I should have added that even if I loved him, I've always been a listen to music when commuting kind of person. Not a big talk radio fan in the first place, especially in the mornings.

I completely agree with No spoken words. I don't find him funny either.

My only Stern listening experience is that at the place I used to work the morning girl would put his show on even though most of our customers were soccer moms with small kids, and she never understood why I'd ask her to change it. Stern can be great for driving customers away!

Something else I heard this morning that's always made me laugh on that show, Wood-Yi. I've seen the real WoodYi guy on the EShow

I don't like some of the Asian things he says, but this morning they had Wood-Yi phony phone calls- that was funny. I don't like Woody Allen so that makes it even more funny.

I think David Lee Roth is annoying -and Adam Carolla, well..boring

By Roger Friedman

Official: Diamond Dave Gets Howard's Job

The rumors were true.

I can tell you exclusively that sometime next month, Infinity Broadcasting will announce that David Lee Roth is taking over for Howard Stern.

The one-time lead singer of Van Halen will assume the microphone in New York and several other markets where Stern's radio show is heard.

Still not set is where Adam Carolla, former co-host of "The Man Show," will be in the lineup, but sources close to the action tell me that Roth and Carolla will not be together.

Roth is represented by the all-knowing, all-seeing Creative Artists Agency in Hollywood, so you know he has an ironclad contract.

The president of programming for Infinity Broadcasting, which owns Stern's show, said last winter that there wouldn't be one person replacing the notorious shock jock.

He was right. Roth and Carolla will divide up the territories so that no one person can regain Stern's monopoly of the airwaves. Carolla will likely have the West Coast.

Now comes the interesting part: So far, Roth has no on-air team assembled. He doesn't have a sidekick like Robin Quivers or any of the other necessary cast members to pull off a three- or four-hour comedy show. But I was assured that's all being finalized right now, and that by the time of the announcement, Roth will be ready.

Last July, there were rumors around concerning Roth replacing Stern when one of the regulars on Stern's show blabbed it in an online column.

According to Billboard, that same regular — Chaunce Hayden — was investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission because he'd been in Stern's studio on Oct. 6, 2004, the day Stern announced he was leaving his show to go to Sirius Satellite Radio.

What's not happening is any relinquishing by Stern of his powerful mount until the end of the year, and it's not only because Roth and Carolla don't have their acts ready.

Stern's contract doesn't run out until December, and Infinity isn't about to let him go early.

On the other hand, DirecTV — which, ironically, has a deal with Sirius' competitor, XM — should be offering Stern's show soon, if it isn't already.

And Stern already has a presence at Sirius, where he's launching a couple of "channels" under his own banner soon.

Don't expect it to be Stern all the time. He's too smart for that.

My guess is there will be lots of interesting, thought-provoking stuff, at a much cooler level than you might expect.
