I remember a few years back that the Scottish football club Celtic was for sale, and that Bono was interested in buying a big share of it.

How much truth was there in that rumour?

totaly true. Kenny Dalglish (Scotland, Liverpool and Celtic legend), Jim Kerr (of Simple Minds fame) and Bono where in a consortium with a few other busness men to buy the team. The owner, Fergus McCann refused to even talk to them because he wanted to sell the club to the fans.
after that was done Dalglish returned to the club as directer of football operations and was sacked after the club had one of its seasons.

I think there was some truth in the rumours.
Bono is a Celtic fan.
He was asked in an iterview in football terms what u2 are.
he replied "right now we are like man utd but we strive to be Glasgow Celtic" that says it all really.
