 not cool at all. i do a search for my name on yahoo people search and my current home address and phone number come up!

:crack:

does anyone know how to remove this?

i am not happy that yahoo also supplies a map to help those find there way to my front door.

i am freaked out because i had a stalker. :scream:

Well, are you listed in the phone book? Call the phone company and get unlisted.

ummm, isnt that the same as having your number and address in the phone book?

if you are that mad id send an e-mail to Mr. Yahoo

well people can just get the address from the phone book and then get directions online

i dont see why you are so worked up over this

You can thank your telephone company Iris...they sell listed phone numbers to the on-line white pages who then link them up to public record search sites, meaning anyone can get your info for a price.

After you ask Yahoo to remove your information, I would suggest that you get an unlisted phone number, only use your first initial instead of your full name whenever possible and make all of your on-line profiles private.

Knowing your history with your stalker, I don't want to scare you but the truth is if you have applied for credit anywhere, your current home address, date of birth, social security number, civil and criminal court records if any, marriage and divorce records, closest relatives and neighbors are available to anyone with $40 and a computer.

Its really unfair that so much of our personal lives are available for a price but there's not much we can do to stop it. Credit headers (the information at the beginning of your credit report) can be bought by almost anyone.

You can PM me if you have any questions about all the other things people can find out about you.

The difference is that I cannot look up a phone number and address in Detroit's phone book as I live in Florida, and don't have a Detroit phone book. The Internet affords people who don't have access to local phone booksthe ability to just go to Yahoo People Search or Switchboard...

If you haven't had someone stalk you, then you might not understand her want to not be easy to find.

And if they belong to Interference, they can even find out some good songs to stalk you by.

In all seriousness, if you are worried, change your phone # ASAP and have it kept *PRIVATE*--not unlisted. Private phone numbers are not only unlisted in the phone book, but they cannot be obtained from directory assistance except by emergency or law-enforcement agencies. Most phone companies will do it for free if you have received or are currently receiving harassing/threatening phone calls. My guess is that if a would-be stalker looked up your # online, called it (the old one), and found it to be out of service, they might well assume that you moved as well and wouldn't come looking for you.

damn i could have used that service for my recent info that i had to supply to the SEC for my securities registration.

psst...If you ever need that kind of info, I can get it for less than $10 as long as its for a legitimate purpose i.e. the info you needed for your SEC registration.

I have direct access to the same service those other companies use but I don't add a mark up to my fees. And for really good friends, I ususally don't charge anything at all

Actually, Iris has every right to be upset.... if you've ever had a stalker, it's pretty damn scary to find stuff that is easily attainable about yourself on the internet. I had a stalker and after his initial contact with me (invading my personal space and asking about my red hair), it was no fun to see him hanging outside my work, asking questions about me to my coworkers and having him follow me around. Eventually, I got him removed from the premises by the mall security, but there was nothing they could really do to the guy except make him stay away for six months. I left that job soon after the incident anyway and never saw him again, but it still affected me.

I didn't like it one bit. I've been abused in the past and I am very wary of people. Iris really does have a right to be concerned and Charlene is right - it's really a shame that there is so much information available to anybody with $40.00 and a computer.

 to you Iris.

im just saying, she was mad that the internet has her name, address and phone number available. and that is supposed to be like an invasion of privacy or something, but if you are listed in the phone book it has exactly the same information. and you have to be listed in the phone book for this information to be on the web. so why should someone freak out that their info is on the web if it is in the phone book, a stalker would find it either way. i think people are a little too afraid of the internet sometimes, i blame it on the movie "The Net."

weeeeellll, I believe that even if you don't have your info listed in the phone book - just your first initial, last name and phone number, people still have access to your address and other pertinent information.

I personally liked the movie The Net - Sandra Bullock rocks. But, I digress. I just think that Iris is sensitive to this issue, that's all.

No harm, no foul.

chizip you really don't understand why i was upset. i see your point but you don't fully see mine. i don't think mr. spilane in Seattle has a phone book sitting around for every city for the State of GA. if he is still as insane as he was then he very well can log on to the internet and type my name in and find where i live within seconds versus having to dig around and wonder if i still live in the same city that i did when i was in college. it is all to easy for that bastard to hunt me down. having police escorts back and forth from campus to my apartment and having to worry about my safety was not fun. having letters mailed to my home threatening to kidnap me and to break in to my apartment was not a comforting feeling. so when i see my personal information available on the internet it freaked me out. but again you don't fully understand so i will not continue to explain.
