I've been wanting to learn more about this band since I saw the video for "Black Dollar Bills" on Subterranean, and I see that Meeganie has their album. I checked allmusic, and there's nothing there about the band.

Anyone care to tell me what they know about Hope of the States? :)

Well I don't know much about them, but I've heard their song The Red, The Black the Blue etc etc. and I rather like it. Angry piano rock, way to go!

I love them. I have their album and saw them live once. The album has super fun art. Umm...they're English. Their guitarist committed suicide a while back; they finished recording the album though, and released it. The Sigur Ros guy produced it. They are playing here soon, but I have to go to a wedding, so I'm missing it... :(

samples, videos, etc. are at http://www.hopeofthestates.com/hots/discograpy.php

I'm going to see them in a couple of weeks! :hyper:

They're by far my favourite newish band (maybe even one of my favourite bands period)....I'd not heard much of them before seeing them live a couple of months ago, but they were stunning. I usually worry when bands have two guitars, piano, violins, etc. that it will just sound messy live, but they pull it off really well. AND, "Nehemiah" came in this really cool heat sensitive case. (Yes, I'm easily impressed)

MuchMusic has a pretty good bio/review: http://www.muchmusic.com/music/artists/bio.asp?artist=1094

Thanks, everyone. :) Meegannie, I will definitely check out all the links. And I'm sorry for misspelling your screen name earlier.

I picked up the album tonight. I'm only on the fifth song so far, but I'm liking it a lot. Yes.

Great stuff, glad I trusted all of your tastes and just got it on a whim

Their music videos are pretty cool too

I'm going to see them soon, and they're giving out a limited edition 7" with five (I think) b-sides on it for the first 50 people at each of their shows. :hyper: Apparently the sleeves are made from old posters and tied with twine.

they are doing some hardcore states touring right now...I keep missing them in all the wonderful cities I currently live in. :(
