Okay, the title is slightly misleading, but I thought it was catchy.

I just moved into an apartment with my friend, and we're throwing a party, and I'm looking for any good music recs - rock, remixes, dance, techno, rap/hip-hop, whatever... stuff like MIA, Bloc Party, LCD Soundsystem, etc.

What does Intereference like to dance to!?

Burnside Project - Cue the Pulse to Begin
Beck - Timebomb
Scissor Sisters - Lights
Gnarls Barkley - Going On
Gorillaz - 19-2000
Run DMC - It's Tricky

The Time - Jungle Love
Prince - 3121
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Royal Oil
Outkast - So Fresh, So Clean
The Clash - The Magnificent Seven
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Hump de Bump
Tom Waits - Low Down

This particular member of Interference likes to dance to Girls Aloud...the world's foremost super sexy five-piece British electro/pop/funk/rock supergroup!!!!

Check it.

Whatever you pick, don't forget...

 Groove is in the Heart - Deee-lite

More party essentials coming after I get home and look up itunes... watch this space!

Prince - 3121

A great jam on what I think is the best Prince album in at least 10 years, and an underrated one at that.

My friends and I occasionally have dance parties where we play ONLY Prince. There's more than enough material to keep it varied.

as long as you leave an hour spare in which to play Daft Punk's "Discovery" in it's entirety, you'll have a great night.

You so don't strike me as a dance party kind of guy.

Yeah he definitely comes off more like a serious rock kinda guy and less into lightweight party music.

Alphabeat- Fascination
Mgmt- Kids
Justice- Anything at all
Vitalic- Anything once again
Of Montreal

You are also already a fan of M83, latest album should have some easy choices.

Sly & the Family Stone, yo.

You're singin' my tune again, lady. FTW.

To clear up the speculation, I'm not normally a dance party guy. I never go to clubs, rarely dance in public unless it's to live music. In short, I don't like dancing to current radio stuff or 80's retro bullshit, as most DJs suck, at least in Los Angeles where I go out. They either play the same crap every night (Beat It? Again? Really?), or mix out of songs after 45 seconds, which is extremely frustrating. I'm definitely more of a dive bar type.

And you only need look in the Madonna thread to see how big of a fan I am.

yeah Couleurs will be on there for sure... thanks for these recs, I think I'll use a couple from your desert island too

Keep posting guys! any cool remixes or hip hop tracks would be especially appreciated, although anything you like to dance to is cool. these are college age kids, fyi. like 18-22.

This is random, but ... if you think they'd dig a retro girl-group style fun ditty, Pull Shapes by The Pipettes is really fun.

The blogs were all over them last year.
