I just read a really funny story on a Turkey travel web site. A restaurant owner in Antalya didn't know any English, but he was trying to attract English-speaking tourists. So he made his menu sign in English, using a dictionary. The menu included "hen spit" and various other kinds of spit--they are cooked using a spit over a fire. But the guy messed up and didn't know that it's a verb as well as a noun in English. Every foreign person who saw that sign laughed themselves silly. The restaurant owner didn't know what was so funny. Finally he asked an American travel writer who speaks Turkish why they were laughing. The American explained that he'd made a few mistakes on that sign. But he told him not to change the sign because he was getting business from it. He proceeded to get the tour writer's business for lunch.
I found this amusing, at any rate.
