I may've already told you the story of a guy I met in Tennessee who hadn't even heard of New Zealand. Mentioning LOTR didn't ring any bells.

Then there was this guy who tried to convince me that New Zealand is NORTH of Australia. Yeah, I've only lived in both countries - what would I know about their relative geographical positions?

My last panoramic shot, Mt Smart from the other end in sultry evening light.

Cool panoramas, Ian. I wish I could figure out how to make them. I tried to do a panorama of the sky once, but trying to stitch it together into a panorama didn't really work well ...

Rest assured, not everyone here is completely uncultured.

However, my mom did once ask me if Canada was near France. She's been to Canada. ...

Chalk cliffs... all those pebbles on those beaches are all flint, incidentally, which has washed out of the chalk cliffs in lumps and eroded down.

Flint is so damn cool.

If it wasn't for

a) My camera having an easy-panoramic setting and
b) My camera coming with a photo stitch program

I'd never bother.

To be fair, there are French people in Canada.

If you aren't paying attention, it is an easy mistake to make.
