Another disappointing performance from France, managing the World Cup's first 0-0 draw with Uruguay.
The French were unlucky to have Henry sent off in the first half, but apart from an early period, failed to shine. Petit also hit the post with a free-kick.
France have to win at least 2-0 against Denmark in their last group game to secure a place in the last 16. Having not scored a goal in the tournament yet this could prove difficult for the French, especially as the Danes will be playing for their place too

No Zidane, No Deschamps, No Blanc, No Pires, exhausted Viera, exhausted Henry, exhausted Trezeget, old Thuram, old Dessailly, error prone Barthez, and imo poor coaching. Too much to overcome.
They may even qualify, and become a force later, but for now they are a shame.

When was the last time a defending World Cup champion was eliminated in group play?

1966 I think. Brazil lost out on that one. In 1950 Italy was eliminated from the group stage.
