Has the SPORTS world gone mad??

Ok, so for those who don't know I'm an old/newbie to this forum. I'm also a long way from home working in China.

I've been here over a year and in that time the North American sports scene is not the same as when I left:

A)The Anaheim Angels win the World Series(of all teams)

B)The Tampa Bay Bucs win the Super Bowl ( perennial losers win the BIG one....what gives?)

C)The Anaheim Mighty Ducks make it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals

D) and now there may actually be a Red Sox-Cubs World Series!

If the Sox and Cubs play each other then the world as we know it no longer exists. At least some things never change like the Maple Leafs whining and NBA stars getting in legal trouble.

There really is no point to this thread other than I find it odd that since I left weird things in the sports world have been happening. I'll be back soon so that means things should be returning to normal.

You bring up some good points. Things are weird right now, that's for sure.

Love your signature, too.

If Bush is responsible, I'm definitely voting for him.

I don't think it's a bad thing. In fact I believe this is a good thing because this gives people hope that their team can go all the way. In the NHL and in other leagues you'll never see a dynasty like the old Islanders, Oilers and Canadiens again. So, it's good if a former league doormat such as the Bucs or the New Jersey Nets can make it to the Finals.

But the fact that Tampa Bay and the Angels win their leagues still is a little much for me to handle. It's almost like North America is some sort of bizarro world right now.

Oh well, thank God for the LA Clippers and the Arizona Cardinals of the world. At least they'll never change!

the sports world used to be a release from real life. not anymore. the lines between the sporting world and the real world get more and more blurred every day. you used to watch sportscenter to get away from the horrors on the nightly news. last night the first 20 minutes of the show had dan patrick talking about vehicular homicide, death and rape.

you want to see sports for what they're really worth, go watch some division 3 athletics. it's the only place where you can see good athletes participating, for the most part, for nothing more than the love of the game. no pro contracts, no endorsements, no corporate sponsorships, no athletic scholarships... just pure athletics. even high school is about money... wether it be the superstar like lebron james and his hummers and throwback jerseys, or the regular kid from suburbia who's parents are fighting in the stands over playing time. you want to get rid of parental violence at the high school, middle school and even little league/mini level? cut back on college scholarships for athletes. that's why parents go nuts. they want the money... may it be a pro contract or as simple as a college scholarship. show me the money has never been so true
