Hehe, I remember a friend of mine commenting on that once-he said that having Columbus Day being used as a consumer ploy was "friggin' ridiculous". .

The schools in my town don't have this day off, either.

Matter of fact, I completely forgot it was Columbus Day until someone mentioned it this morning on T.V.

*Wonders why, after all we've found out about the way Columbus treated people, we still have a day devoted to him*

Columbus Day has become Italian-American Day over here (NYC)
And schools are closed here as well.
It looks like only New Yorkers care about it. Its probably for the three day weekend (Not that I'm complaining! )
