I've always collected stuffed animals, but when I moved to Washington, DC to work after college, I didn't have room to take many with me, so I just brought a penguin. One night some friends and I went to a reception for a wildlife charity, and Jack Hanna was there with a few animals, including a really cute penguin that was waddling around the room. The organizers were giving out free stuffed animals as everyone left, and two of the girls and I picked penguins because they were the cutest. We decided as joke to name all of our penguins after this guy we knew so we could freak him out by individually telling him we'd named our penguins after him. Then penguins became sort of an inside joke between us, and since I then had two penguins, I started to collect them. :shrug:
