This. The last sitcom I was compelled to watch on a weekly basis was Arrested Development. And if you want to be technical, that wasn't really a sitcom, which implies a certain level of "reset" after every episode and requires no pre-existing knowledge of the show. AD was actually more like the show Soap, which had an ongoing storyline. You'll notice that Ron Howard's narration at the beginning of most AD episodes was to deal with this issue.

But as for actual sitcoms, I just don't make them a priority. I love The Venture Bros, for instance, but I don't think I've seen anything since Season Two.

Same here. I worshipped AD and have not latched onto something funny since. Thank god for the Daily Show, I can always get some laughs that way. Might have to try Norm McDonald's show out as well. COS I DO LIKE TO LAUGH SOMETIMES*.

Ah, that was just wonderful. Even a bit better than I hoped for.

The one thing that I was worried about, however, is it being on a premium cable channel. What I mean is, last summer, I finally got around to trying to get into some of the Showtime shows, and every debut episode I watched, within five minutes was about two or three scenes of just sex sex sex. I'm not saying I'm a prude or something, and despise sex scenes, it just felt to me like they were shoe-horned in there for the sake of being all like, "Look at us, we're a premium channel. You can't show this shit on regular tv." So I was a little dubious (and not too familiar with HBO programming) about what may happen with this show. And, yeah, there was a bit of nudity/sex, but actually...none of it was added in, I guess I just forgot how naughty the books can be :tsk:.

Anyways, stupid rant aside, I had such a fucking wonderful time watching this. The fan in me was a little overwhelmed at first with, "oh look it's so and so!" or "OMG look at the walllllll!!!" , but once I calmed down, I realized that just on its own, without the books to back it up, this is a good show, and I'm very excited for future viewings.

HBO shows (at least the ones I've watched), typically haven't been the full on "violence and nudity ONLY" type shows you get on Stars and others. That said, I still enjoyed the two seasons of Spartacus, despite it legitimately only being about extreme violence and nudity. :shh:

I can't decide if I want to watch Spartacus or not. I largely know nothing about the show, but I'm such a ridiculous fan of the film by the same name. Does it even have anything to do with that? lol.

The only other HBO show I've watched is The Wire and I pretty much got that impression from it alone.

So...is it Sunday yet?

Not really, other than some of the historical similarities (ha) and character names. Think of a a much more violent mix of 300 and Gladiator that's filled with nudity and sex. It's one of the most over the top trashy things I've ever seen, but for some reason I still liked it.

You didn't see "Rome," did you?

Haha, no. You're right though, I did hear that show was pretty bad. I do like that Ray Stevenson guy though.

Based on your previous post, I would say this is not for you.

In spite of what I may have previously said:

This sounds almost ridiculous enough to check out.

I was texting with a friend one night while watching, and within about a 10 or 15 minute period of the show I sent four texts that essentially read like this:

1. A couple people were just beheaded

2. An orgy is presently going on

3. Some dude just had his leg cut off, and it was disgusting

4. Xena: Warrior Princess is topless

a few months ago i got a job in a talent agency that supplied a pretty reasonable proportion of the extra talent (i could probably italicise both of those words to be honest) to spartacus.

i turned it down because the pay sucked compared to the other job i'd just got. since it was just some admin job it can't possibly have been as interesting as it may have appeared. can it?

I watched it on Sunday and I have zero knowledge about this story line and not sure how I feel about it. I ended up falling asleep then was woken up by some orgy looking thing on a beach! I thought HBO went to its porn schedule. I do have a question though, the young actress with white blond hair, how old is she? She looks 15 but I assume she is over 18 since she had a topless scene.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to watch this.
