Fugazi

I love them. I only have their Furniture E.P. and about 2 songs from the Argument and The Waiting Room song. What album or songs do you guys reccomend? Are they widely known now? How did they gather their fan base while being in the underground music scene?

I, for whatever reason, never got into them, but, I had a lot of friends in College that loved them. I think they got a lot of college radio play, and, just played a lot of gigs.....but my memory could be off.

Ian MacKaye is hosting Harmony in My Head tonight from 8-10 p.m. Pacific time on Indie 103.1 in LA (regular host and lifelong MacKaye friend Henry Rollins is on tour at the moment). He's going to be playing anything he wants, so may be playing some of his own stuff.

You can listen live here.

Best albums (imho)

The Argument
In on the Killtaker
13 Songs
Repeater

I'd say they were the model for DIY back in the late 80's/early 90's and continue to this day, though the band has been on indefinite hiatus for quite some time. Ian has put out a couple records with Amy Farina as The Evens. And Brendan Canty produced one of my favorite records from last year, Ted Leo's "Living with the Living." To my knowledge, they permanently froze ticket prices for their shows at $5. Here's a couple wikipedia links for Ian Mackaye and Fugazi that should provide more insight.

13 Songs is a fantastic album. Haven't listened to it in a while, I'll put that on a list of "musical goals" for the week.

I'm actually probably more of a Minor Threat fan, but it's pretty cool to see someone be so successful in two relatively different kinds of bands.

Minor Threat! Yeah!! I'm not even close to being straight edge, but still a great tune.

"Straight Edge"

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and fuck my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white shit up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I've got the straight edge

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
