I'm taking Meezer to the vet tomorrow. I think one of his teeth is bothering him again because he has a sneezey nose and his eye is watery.

Wish me luck getting him in the carrier. :yikes: I brought it out tonight so he gets used to seeing it. He's already hiding but I hope by tomorrow afternoon he'll be out and about so I can snatch him up and stuff him in it. :D

Good luck to Meezer! Getting them in the carrier is the worst. I usually grab them and stuff them in there in a quick swift motion when they least expect it. The quicker the better so they dont have time to realize exactly whats going on lol.

That video is so sweet. Charley

Awwww. That Charley video is too sweet.

Have you guys watched the Winston videos? Winston rules. I love this guy and his cat. :D

YouTube - Winston on yummy

My sister is obsessed with Winston. It's a blue point exotic short hair. He's ugly-cute.

ETA: Will and Roscoe love the carrier. They are currently taking turns sitting in it. lmao.

Awwww Sterling. So glad to see him home.

What did the vet say? Did they put him on a special diet?

Yes, they've put him on special food. For now we have him in his own convalescing room, where he can eat his food without her messing with it, and we can check to see how his bathroom activities are going. He has meds as well. We have to take him in for a checkup/blood test in 10 days. So far, he seems back to his old self, but very skinny!!

BTW LOVE the movie of Charlie.

He has to eat special food that changes the PH of his pee, or something. They think his bladder has snapped back mostly, and are hoping it heals. The tough part will be feeding them separately, since Roxie is so nosy and will abandon her own food to follow us if she thinks something is going on that she wants to check out. I dunno how we're going to handle separate feedings when we're away.

He's lost SO much weight! I can't believe how skinny he is.

What kind of food is it? Is it Hills C/D or Waltham/Royal Canin S/O? Just curious. Zoey is on C/D meant to lower her PH since hers was through the roof when she had her episode years ago. And Saki is on the S/O which isnt quite as potent but is supposed to just regulate the PH and keep it neutral. Yeah its a pain but they've been doing just fine since being on the special diets.

It's good to have a separate feeding room for him with a litterbox too so you can monitor him closely. That way you can catch any problems immediately before he gets blocked. Hopefully he wont get blocked again.

Yay, so glad Sterling is home! Boy, he does look skinny but hopefully he'll back to his old self soon

He's on the Canin. I read the label, and it seems to contain good stuff. I'm wary about a lot of these foods, since even the "good" foods like Hills, etc have been bought out by huge corporations, but I'm hoping the Rx only stuff hasn't been messed with.

The lady we got Roxie from is a pet nutrition specialist who has written articles on the subject, and at the time of the adoption she gave us a list of good and bad foods, and the off-the-shelf Hill stuff was on the "NO" list. This is the main reason we've been getting the Evo.

The good news is that the Evo is so expensive, the Canin Rx stuff doesn't seem all that expensive by comparison.

With the Canin S/O (green and white bag?) it wont hurt Roxie if she happens to get into it. It would be worse I think for Sterling to get into the regular food than the other way around. The C/D is more potent and I have to make sure Saki doesnt get into it. Yeah its definitely not the best food or choice I'd make to feed mine, but I don't think its dangerous in any way. Just not as good quality as others. And if it means keeping their urinary issues under control, I'm for it. Hell, our old family cat ate crap Friskies her entire life and she lived to be 19 with no health issues until the end.

So Meezer probably needs a tooth pulled. They have him on antibiotics for now but when he is finished I have to take him back for some blood work to make sure he can be put under.

Getting him in the carrier was traumatic for us both. :crack:

:( poor dude...

and  they need to make cat carriers more cat friendly or something. I dread the day Lily has to go out in the big bad world again. :crack: After the last carrier episode I'm not sure I can handle another. I think vets should do house calls for cats!

This is my little hunter stepping on a teeny little bug that I freaked out over :reject: Lily was sleeping on the couch in the other room and I woke her up to take care of this for me. :der: She was so proud when she left the room and then she quickly came back to make sure her prey was dead. She's still on bug patrol waiting to find another one.

With any luck he'll feel so much better after he gets his tooth out. My Loki had to have all his remaining teeth out -- all seven of 'em  -- a couple of years ago, and he was feeling better almost immediately. Now it did take a while for his gums to heal and for him to start eating well again (because his gums hurt), but he clearly felt pretty good.

He came to me as an already older stray cat six years ago and his teeth were worn and broken then. Still I hated to just take them all out, but it turned out to be best think for him. He's happier and more playful than I have ever seen him now. He even eats dry cat food sometimes! (He does get canned cat food every day, but I also have dry available for them.)

So I hope Meezer's tooth extraction goes well and that he feels a whole lot better afterwards.

I have one of these cat carriers:

and it is great! It has both end and top doors. Now I can just open the top, pick up the cat, drop him/her in, close it and off we go. I did use to have all sorts of problems shoving my cats into front loading carriers, but with this one there is no fighting. One of my cats (Maddie) used to run and hide whenever she saw me get the carrier, so I would still have problems catching her, but once caught, even she was easy to actually put in the carrier.

I don't know why, but mine just don't seem to fight going in as much when I can just place them in from the top.

Thanks for all the  guys! I think Meez will be okay. He was a stray living in an abandoned house before he was rescued so his teeth were in suspect shape when I got him 2 years ago. He's had this tooth problem before and since then he has lost one of the bad teeth! :yikes:

My vet said that even cats with a few teeth can still eat hard food but he will be on a soft food diet for a while. I literally had to sit with him last night to make sure he ate so that my other 2 didn't bully him out of the way after they had finished their food. I moved Meezer's food bowl upstairs, where he's been hiding out but as soon as the other two heard the crack of the can they were right there. lol

arw, I've been known to go and get a cat when I need a bug taken care of.

Roscoe was on the C/D for a few years. He has not had any incidents in a very long time (really since the initial visit) so the vet said I could try a holistic food. My guys have been on Halo's Spot's Stew for almost a year now and they love it.
