Why is that? I don't know of any benefits of leaving pet cats intact.

I agree. I think it should be a law. There are far too many unwanted cats/kittens in the world.

...and so many organizations that will do it for free or low cost! We do it for TWO dollars, that's it!

Also, in some areas, feral cats have had a significant impact on native wildlife. Not cool.

Yeah... its so so sad seeing all those strays..

Hawaii has (or had) a pretty bad problem with too many strays. I remember living there from 98' to 2002 and whenever I went to Pearlridge Mall there was a sewer drain area that you could see from a certain vantage point at the mall. And I remember seeing tons of strays living down there.. IT WAS AWEFUL!

Speaking of strays we have 6 in our garden Two litters of cats that were brought to us by the two mummy cats we fed...Tiny came from the first litter. We got them all spayed and neutered and we continue to feed them...Tiny's brother Nemo will hopefully turn fully to our side soon...he does come in and will let you pet him...doesn't like to be crowded though and will be spooked if he doesn't have a clear escape route.

I don't think there are any more strays in the neighbourhood, plenty of other people's pet cats though...they cause more trouble than our strays....the strays keep very much to themselves.
Oh I'm so pleased to hear this! I was really worried about her.

All my cats are strays (and I have a couple more who come around every day for food and attention) and some are still very wary even years after becoming an "official" member of my household. I still love them all though.

Where we used to live before we bought a house last year, several neighborhood cats came up to visit from time to time. We lived on the second floor of an old house, and the cats (some had homes, but not all of them) knew they could get a kind word, some food, and maybe some catnip at the top of those stairs. We got pictures of some of them, but not all; and I do miss them. This first one, we found a home for!

This one was our favorite; we called him "Scruffy."

is it true the cats have ever suffocated infants by lying on top of them, or is that an old wive's tale?

never heard of that one.. Sounds like an old wive's tale. Most cats I know stay the hell away from infants/kids..

to this day, my cat totally resents my son for coming along. She always has this look of distaste and "i was here first". She barely tolerates him and runs everytime he comes round.. Talking about holding a grudge...
