I like anything by the Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan is a brilliant lyricist.

I adore Robert Smith of The Cure and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode for lyrics.

"If for kindness you substitute blindness,
please open your eyes."

~Condemnation, Depeche Mode.

I can't choose.. I really like pretty much anything Shirley Manson writes. I'm indecisive.

"You must not look down on someone just 'cos they are 14 years old. When I was that age I listened to the music of John Lennon and it changed my way of seeing things, so I'm just glad that 14 year olds are coming to see U2 rather than group X." - Bono, 1988

don't let anyone see us
say what they've seen and expose us
I've seen how they are and I hate it
they could never
talk about
where we've been

Salome
Shake it, shake it, shake it

What a beautiful face I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream that could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweet
Let me hold it close and keep it here with me

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me

What a curious life we have found here tonight
There is music that sounds from the street
There are lights in the clouds
Anna's ghost all around
Hear her voice as it's rolling and ringing through me
Soft and sweet
How the notes all bend and reach above the trees

Now how I remember you
How I would push my fingers through
Your mouth to make those muscles move
That made your voice so smooth and sweet
But now we keep where we don't know
All secrets sleep in winter clothes
With one you loved so long ago
Now he don't even know his name

What a beautiful face I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
And when we meet on a cloud I'll be laughing out loud
I'll be laughing with everyone I see
Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
when you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along.
When your day is night alone,
if you feel like letting go,
when you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone.

Stand up to the blow
that fate has struck up on you
make the most of all
you still have coming to you
lay down on the ground
and let the tears flow from you
crying to the earth and trees
and heaven, finally, on your knees

let me live again
let life come find me wanting
spring must strike again
against the chill of winter
let me feel once more
the arms of love surround me
telling me the dangers passed
I need not fear the icy blast again

Can't help falling in love with you

Wise men say
only fools rush in
but I can't help
falling in love with you

Like a river flows
surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand
take my whole life too
for I can't help
falling in love with you

Like a river flows
surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand
take my whole life too
for I can't help
falling in love with you

Lloyd: What are the chances of a guy like you and a girl like me...ending up together?
Mary Swanson: Not good.
Lloyd: Not good like one in a hundred?
Mary Swanson: I'd say more like one in a million.
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance?

"Have a Cigar" - Pink Floyd

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar. You're gonna go far,
fly high, you're never gonna die, you're gonna make it if you try;
they're gonna love you.
Well I've always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincerely.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy,
we call it Riding the Gravy Train.

We're just knocked out, we heard about the sell out.
You gotta get an album out, you owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count.
Everybody else is just green, have you seen the chart?
It's a helluva start, it could be made into a monster
if we all pull together as a team.
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy,
we call it Riding the Gravy Train.

A mind of your own?
I thought you were special
I thought you should know

Depeche Mode-In Your Room
I'm hanging on your words
living on your breath
feeling with your skin
will I always be here

I agree with you, Noodle, Martin Gore and Robert Smith are excellent lyricists.

Excellent (oh god, I AM Mr. Burns, lol). I haven't been able to stop listening to the Strokes in weeks!

Favorite lyric? I don't know...too many great songs out there and my brain is fried at the moment. Beer is calling!

i'm glad to see your priorities are straight.

ladylemon, you a westsider or eastsider?

They say we're in a state of emergency
So how come no one is panicking?
Where were you when they wrote the news?
And how are you? Are you feeling blue?
-Chantal Kreviazuk, Blue, 1999

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see.
-The Beatles, Strawberry Fields Forever, 1966.

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go 'round and 'round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go.
-John Lennon, Watching the Wheels, 1980.

What would it be? For me, it's from the song 'Name' by the Goo Goo Dolls.

"Don't it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are..."

I love Jeff Buckley's Last Goodbye - anyone that has ever broken up a relationship can totally relate to this song!!

This our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then I'll go
you gave me more to live for, more than you'll ever know.

This is our last embrace, must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Baby, maybe it's just because I didn't know you at all
Kiss me, please Kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know, it makes me so angry 'cause I know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

Did you say, "no can't happen to me", and did you rush to the phone to call?
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind saying, "maybe...you didn't know him at all"
Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memory Of her sighs that, "it's over... it's over..."

Really need to hear him singing it though to get the full effect

I have two favourite non-U2 lyrics. One is my siggy and the other one is from Lou Reed's Magic and Loss:

There's a bit of magic in everything
And then some loss to even things out

we live and learn from our mistakes

Translation:

"Spending time on my own
Hold a memory and bitter recollections
Switch for switch, lust for lust

And each time I answer the phone
It says "revenge"
Indecent revenge, not a terrible power
Gold, frankincense and myrrh

A sour wavelength and a heart of steel
Building clear boundaries
Changing wavelength, swimming the wave

Hold the bait with all your might
Rise to the surface
Indecent revenge, not a terrible power
Gold, frankincense and myrrh"

"the world is in my chaos dream
but I am not invited
cos you don't know what people say
cos you don't know what people want to say
you're an abstract unknown boy
you and me talk freely at night
and this is my chaos
you've got a right to stay inside
I supply
you are the last one to know
cos I don't know"

"It?s a better way to feel
Don?t be real, be postmodern"

and if it seems i'm. floating.

what it takes to sail you home

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Beatles

There are places I remember all my life,
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better,
Some have gone and some remain.

All these places had there moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall.
Some are dead and some are living.
In my life I've loved them all.

But of all these friends and lovers,
There is no one compares with you.
And these mem'ries lost there meaning
When I think of love as something new.

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In my life I'll love you more.
