Edwin Starr R.I.P.

Hello,

This morning I heard on the radio that soul legend Edwin Starr has died. You can read more about it in this article. In the article there is also the mention of Bruce Springsteen, who has covered his songs in concert (even starting some shows recently with one of his songs). So in remembrance of Edwin Starr are here the lyrics of his most famous song (and one that is unfortunately very appropriate again):

War
written by Whitfield/Strong

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
War is something that I despise
For it means destruction of innocent lives
For it means tears in thousands of mothers' eyes
When their sons go out to fight to give their lives

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

War
It's nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
War is the enemy of all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind
Handed down from generation to generation
Induction destruction
Who wants to die

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

War has shattered many young men's dreams
Made them disabled bitter and meanLife is too precious to be fighting wars
each day
War can't give life it can only take it away

War
It's nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
Peace love and understanding
There must be some place for these things today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord there's gotta be a better way
That's better than
War

War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing

May your star shine brightly... (no pun intended)

Marty

Rest in peace...I was listening to 'War' just a few hours ago and thinking 'What a great song'.

RIP.
Kind of ironic timing for his death.

RIP

A couple of days ago, I listened to a radio documentary about curtis mayfield. The fellow who was talking about him, got very emotional( so did I) he said something like ...sorry for getting teary, but curtis' music touched me. He died at the end of the 20th century and we have perhaps more need for him now in the 21st.....

....Lord there's go to be a better way....
