:applaud: it's one of my favourites too. i also love their live cover of cockney rebel's come up and see me.

when you get medazzaland, let me know what you think of it. :D

will do !

I'll be sure to give you all a full review from this coming Wednesday's concert. It's looking quite dismal for any chance of going to their show at the Roxy, in Hollywood. That place holds 300 people and only 150 tickets are being make 'available' to the public.

That's standard practice for shows there, but sux for us who would love to see the original five members playing up close and personal

*will personally fall over when Roger Taylor starts doing his drum solo from Girls on Film.........!

Okay, so my friend and I camped out overnight for tickets to the Roxy. We were 58th in line and we STILL didn't get tickets. All the drama was just unbelievable.

We're still going to go up there tonight to try and get in. A friend has a friend who works there so we are going to try and work that angle but it's probably going to be impossible.

Oh well, I still have tomorrow nigth, which is the REAL SHOW!

yeah, i heard about the shittiness of the roxy. this is from dd's management:

Hello everyone,

We are quite upset that all of you who tried to get tickets for tonight's performance at the Roxy are so disappointed. The Roxy had put tickets on sale without the band, management or agent knowing ? having been very clearly instructed on a number of occasions ? that there were to be NO phone sales. Someone must have not gotten that message. We only found out about it ten minutes before the box office was due to open, at which point there was nothing we could do. Our allocation, because of the size of the venue, was small anyway ? so we knew that some people would be left out, which is upsetting. This is inevitable at a gig this size. We were mortified when we found out what the club had done ? but as the sales were also to ardent fans, we couldn't "take them back" - even if we had been able to.

We are all sorry for any confusion, frustration or disappointment this has caused.

oy, i just noticed this. yeah, that could work. some fans love it immediately (like me), and others are just now starting to get into it (those who bought it when it came out in 97 that is). so for some it's a grower album.

thanks for the link. :(

btw, you didn't hear it from me (okay you did), but it seems warren (former guitarist who filled the void when andy left) attended one of the shows, the roxy gig i presume, and had sour grapes. i don't really know why, i think because he wasn't invited onstage or anything.

also, he's got this thing together called gang bang. they're playing duran duran, missing persons, frank zappa, etc. songs "the way they were meant to be played." he also noted that these songs will never be sung without emotion again. (he actually used the word emotion!) it's a lame band comprised of him, his brother, and musicians from dd's touring group from the late 90s-2002.

between the name (no i'm not a prick, but there is taste and tact and he seems to lack both, a name like gang bang will not get anything but negative publicity) and the fact that he can't get anyone who's ever actually been in a band, i predict this project crashing and burning, much like his missing persons reunion. (for those who don't know, he tried to reunite the group around the same time dd did, with much less success. one by one, each member bowed out until it was him and a bunch of session musicians.)

he's a great musician but he's made that second, with his fetish for sex, nudity, and porn first, that he's become rather pathetic, and i wouldn't be surprised if it turned out duran duran kicked him out of the group. i feel bad for them because for all eternity, they'll be associated with him.

okay sorry, i didn't mean to turn this into a warren cuccurullo post, but it is relevent as he was in duran duran, so hey.

i wonder what the new songs sound like

will they be attempting a contemporary sound or looking towards glassy-eyed nostalgia?
i have heard a couple of them. john premiered one when he was guest deejaying at a radio station in los angeles, and i've also heard a live track from a gig in japan. they both sound rather new, not stuck in the 80s or anything. i was a bit worried myself, as to where they'd pick up from where they left off, the last album the fivesome did together, or the last album at all? i'm so glad it's the latter. now if only they'd play less 80s stuff on their setlists.

I wasn't aware that there was a new singles collection until I was cleaning the other night, and found a Barnes & Noble ad that mentioned it. So I ordered it via the bn.com website, and it should get here within the week. I'm especially excited about the fact that B-sides like "Late Bar" & "Faster Than Light" are on it.
And I would be very interested in seeing Simon, Nick and the Taylors three in concert. It would be great if they could play the Jones Beach Theater next summer, an outdoor venue which is my personal favorite place for a show.
I guess I still have a soft spot for these guys, even though I haven't followed their career in years. And one of my prized possessions is a Japanese 2-CD set with extended mixes of the singles.

yes yes, i love that box set! of course i'd already heard everything on it, but it's nice to have legitimate copies of everything on cd. the packaging on it is so cool, too. since i've got all these singles already (on vinyl), it's cool to see it the exact same way.

everyone should own it.

btw, it has been sort of confirmed that they will be doing a more full-out tour of the united states this november. rumour has it they will also tour the uk.

hopefully by then i'll be in florida so i'll actually have a chance in hell of seeing them! so close to so many big cities that they play all the time...

as compared to where i live now, where the last time they toured i had to fly to atlanta to see them. they were playing closer, but it was in a casino and i'm not 21. the casino refused to make it an all-ages event. so fuck you jack binion!
